United Airlines Earnings Disappoint As Operating Costs Bite

https://apple.news/A9gjypaTLTYy0scpOMyQLAA

So when are United getting that 5% raise again???

Earnings missed. Profit margin during the best quarter of the year, during a year with stronger demand than normal, was only 7.2%. Stock price down 6.5% after hours.

As supply of ASM’s increase as airlines staff back up, demand decreases now that the summer of COVID revenge travel is ending, and possibly a small drop in demand due to inflation and/or mild economic slowdown, that profit margin is likely to decrease.

At this rate, it’s very likely United won’t hit the profit margin threshold in 4Q22 and 1Q23. So best case in my opinion is after 3Q23, but it’s very possible it could drag out another quarter, which would push the 5% raise out after 4Q23 earnings into early 2024.

I’m glad the Union paused the vote and the company was willing to come back to the table. Fix a couple items fast and send it our way so we can get that raise in our pockets now.

holy cow what a ridiculous post. Flush this turd and start over with a new NC and new contract. Tired of mice leading our union.

I just changed my vote to YES. I think we all owe our NC/MEC an apology. 5am first day reserve sucks but it is what it is. Don't cut your nose to spite your face.

I hope this is a joke. My diminished QOL does not equal a few hours of add pay.

Legit question from an outsider:

GAAP pretax margin of 3.8%, adjusted/non-GAAP pretax margin of 5.0%.

Is your profit sharing/COVID raise trigger predicated on GAAP or non-GAAP margin?

Thanks

I’m with you. Another YES voter here. We’re in terrible shape and looking forward I can’t see how we expect an industry leading contract with such poor financial results. The sky really is falling. Let’s pitch in and do our part to help this operation out. I emailed my reps asking that while we’re back at the table we consider a 2am first day report instead of 6am. I also think we need to add just a “few” seats to all RJs to help the pilots that commute. Forget PBS and reassignment, I think all trips should be assigned the day prior, fairly of course, using seniority. I think the 14.5% was too much, we should be happy with just the 9% raise. The training pay and the Tumi were a very generous concession on United’s part that we can do without this time around. We need to “gradually” transition TK to all PUPs. Widebody landings at the company’s discretion, sans the add pay, as they really can’t afford it based on our most recent quarterly financial results. What else am I missing? I know there’s more we can give….

Please consider changing your vote from NO to YES and email your reps, hat in hand, and tell them you sincerely do expect less now.

At the current projected profit, we could double our contract costs for 2 years and the company would still be profitable. Think on that one.
