I would expect the long term equilibrium to be 7-8 years to be a WB line holder in the junior coastal bases (SFO and EWR).. LAX and IAD are probably closer to 10 years and all bets are off for the rest.

Wouldn't they have shrink the bases then? 10 years seniority would put more than half of the base on reserve as it stands.

For any pilot considering United wondering about Long Call (LC) vs. Short Call (SC) just think of it like this, there is no LC. LC is a starting and ending point. Sure when a base is over manned (COVID days) or it’s winter schedule one may get away with 2-3 SCs. Summer is coming…

No way. Not even close with them hiring 150-200 a month and 8000 over the next 5 years. I bet someone hired today will reliably by a WB lineholder in EWR or SFO in 3 yrs. 4-5 yrs absolute max

LAX 787 FO has 149 pilots, minus 15 on LTD.
Around 9,700 system seniority for line holder.
Junior man close to 12,000.
UAL system wide shows 15,600+ total pilots and a bunch categorized as instructors, around 16,000 total now, give or take with retirements.

I don't have the DOH doc in front of me but it sounds close. I like to use the master seniority numbers because I think it shows a clearer picture. The DOH number is just another piece of the puzzle to be considered. I was hired pre merger and it obviously has taken a lot more years to hold that BES than the guys that hold it now. And future results will change again, hence looking at total seniority list vs bottom line holder or junior man to me is a better comparison to just DOH.

A simpler way is saying, "If you were hired a year ago, you could have held captain now, if you are hired today, who knows?", It took me 10 years to be able to hold captain, to put that in perspective. If we get a new contract, I think these rapid upgrade times will be a thing of the past.
