I’ve jumpseated before with a snowboard. Getting to the gate is awkward (through TSA, weird looks in the terminal, general maneuvering, etc.).

Once you are at the gate, the agent will generally just gate check it to baggage claim, and off you go…

great info here. Just one addition to this, ski poles are not allowed through security (including KCM). I’ve had great luck checking bags as a jumpseater at the full service ticket counter.
