How much do you fly as a junior reserve out of SFO on the 787/777?

Also, what are the chances of holding either one straight out of training?

Not sure about now but they used it frequently to cover for a negative Covid test when that was a thing.

Field standby has been in use recently on the 777 SFO. It's available to the crew desk, so it happens.

As far as the base goes, 777 has lots of domestic flying. Not as efficient as international and many domestic trips are not commutable, sometimes on both ends so the domestic flying goes junior. Plan on being on short call. Long call doesn't happen much.

The SFO 777's go pretty much everywhere. Europe, Pacific. It's also used as a tool for beating up competition. Just put a cattle car A model with a gazillion seats to compete. So flying changes frequently.

The big question is how will HKG and the rest of China come back. Will the Chinese stop using Covid as an excuse to keep other airlines out? No idea.

The 787 trades some flying with the 777 seasonally, flies longer routes, and the thinner markets. Not nearly as much domestic flying. But as has been said, we are getting new 787's, and for now the 777 fleet is stable.

I have 6,000+ hours in the GE90 77 when I was at lCal, and just passed 7,0 hours in the 78. Never flew the P&W 77.

TBH, I found the GE90 powered 77 more fun to fly than the 78, and I've thought about switching back for my last couple years.

It makes a difference when you have 94K of thrust under each wing (115K for the 300)…

IMO, aside from thrust, there's no real noticeable difference between the Pratt and GE planes. However, beware if you're in EWR, because the trips on the 787 are way better than the trips on the 777 right now and the 777 has been shrinking every bid (no displacements, just natural attrition). I had no plan of ever going through another training cycle before I retire, but I am seriously considering going to the 787 because of that. Like you, just about everyone I've spoken to preferred flying the 777 to flying the 787.
