Sadly, the damage has been done. The only alternative is an RBO (religious based organization), plan to live out your days in some small town in a low cost state like Nebraska. Or have lots of kids and hope that one "hits it".

I was more thinking along the lines of home care or other alternatives.

I just looked into Long Term Care which includes home care. It's expensive. For my wife and I...benefits of $250/day each for 3 years (we can borrow from each others if needed) was about 13k/yr. We are 57 and 55. Once you start paying you keep paying. Once you hit 60 you need to qualify health wise to get a policy and it can be hard so 58-59 isn't a bad time to start it. If you do the math and how much you will spend for a policy it should make you reconsider options like building up your RHA, saving up yourself for it etc if you won't have retirement income that easily covers it.

That’s great if you’re 55. I would not want to be 85 and frail and slightly hard of hearing and a little bit slow mentally in another country away from family
