What will the bargaining climate be like in 2024?. Oil predicted in the $80-140 range, if you can’t see the chart.

Question: There was a lot of hubbub the last year about significantly reigning in Global Reserve, but it still seems like the same monster with a few little improvements. But of all the TA2 complaints, I've not heard anything about that this time around. Are widebody people just that happy with life? Asking as a NB guy curious about making the jump eventually.

I was responding specifically to your point about complaining about the TA then secretly voting yes. It’s a criticism I’ve seen on these boards multiple times (along w/ only being willing to vote no because they know it won’t affect the outcome), as though some people can’t fathom a person turning down the gains of this TA on principle, or being willing to hold out for something better. Says more about the mindset of the accuser than the accused, IMO.

Haven’t run into a NO vote yet on any of my trips or talking while in Ops… I’m giving this a 75-80 yes minimum.

Funny, I haven't run into a YES voter yet. We must run in different circles.

However, to your point of considering making the jump from NB to WB I would simply add that a few of us (myself included) consider WB flying to be not "better" but actually worse. True the trips tend to be far more productive, but nearly everything requires flying red eyes, we just don't call a red eye a red eye when it goes to Paris or South Africa or Hong Kong, but it is very definitely a red eye, and if one does not have the skill of sleeping in a bunk then one is truly in trouble and will quickly find WB trips intolerable. I jumped from NB to WB because the pay differential was enough to overcome my disdain for night flying, but I only considered the 777 because it has a fair amount of domestic trips that are NOT red eyes. I would NEVER bid the 787 because nearly every trip on the '78 is super long haul and totally back side of the clock, often in both directions . . . yuck. Anyways just offering one guys perspective on WB versus NB. It is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. Make sure you examine the trips on any fleet and seat and domicile before making the jump especially with the pending age 67 rule change coming which will likely freeze WB folks completely for 2 years. |
I came here to vote no, but the voting has closed already.
Not enough improvements to reserve, and completely against forced upgrades. I have a feeling it will still pass, 80/20. |
