everything has a cutoff date. If your kid is born 1 JAN bummer on your taxes. It’s all good. If you were an April hire you’d miss the vacation cycle. If you were a DEC hire you’d prob mess up your Christmas plans. It’s all good and you can literally bid for any $300k+++ position you want today. So do it and don’t look back.

You’ll be getting the money now or later. Not sure why the company (not our union) decided on that, although I think it probably works out better in the long run for pilots to not have all employees less than a year (there are a lot of more of them than us), taking a slice of the pie. If it were just pilots, it’s a wash, but it’s not.

Might as well make it 2 years or 5 years with that logic then? (As long as other work groups had to wait that long as well)

It’s a union negotiated item agreed upon with management, not controlled. There’s a difference. If someone is making money for the company and profit sharing exists with that group then they should see the fruits of their labors. It’s something I let my reps know is important to me and want to see in the contract. Not a fan of pulling ladders up.

The year part is in the United (not our CBA) profit sharing plan. My assumption is that it wasn’t negotiated because it wasn’t at best a wash and at worst a negative to the pilot group. And by negative, I mean every pilot, new hires included, would get less money somehow. I used to be able to find the corporate plan, but it’s now buried on FT.
