Default Delta Slowing Down 2024 Pilot Hiring

Wasn't United forecasted to hire about 2000 pilots in 2024 as well? Do people think United will slash their hiring like Delta? Or will the demands of United Next keep pilot hiring higher than the other legacies? Thoughts?

United is taking a new plane in every 3 days with no planned, or publically announced aircraft retirements. They will need to hire a lot for pilot retirements and airplane deliveries.

Delta started hiring sooner, will hit peak retirements sooner, and has far less aircraft on order, and United is well ahead of Delta on the delivery list. All signs point to UAL hiring more than DAL for the forseeable future. Even with a 50% reduction, DAL hiring 1000+ pilots per year is pretty crazy numbers historically speaking. The good times aren't over yet!

Percentages matter. 1,000 with a pilot corps of 16,000 is 6%. At it's peak AA in the mid 1980's was hiring 1,000 a year and the initial pilot corps size was 5,000. That's 20% in one year. The next year it's 1000/6000 = 17%, 1000/7000 = 14, 1000/8000. We got to 8,000+ and some newhires thought they'd upgrade in 5 years like the Captains did that they were flying with. Where you slot into the hiring curve matters...

Percentages matter a heck of a lot less in an airline with multiple types on multiple payscales than they do in someplace like AS, WN, NK, or F9. Especially when you have so many senior people quite content to be a WB FO until they are senior enough to be a WB CA. That's why they are giving out upgrade slots in intro.

Wait what? United's first post-covid class was May 2021. I thought Delta was at least six months behind, if not more.

Delta's first post-COVID class was June 22, 2021, to be precise.

I hope United doesn't slow down hiring. I'd like to get a line with less than 80 hours and be able to use my vacation weeks that I lost for training. I was unable to get monthly vacation in either January or February. Plus I can't remember the last time one of my flights wasn't close to/100% full.

What I see with my own eyes supports this: it seems like all my DSM-ORD flights are completely full, I almost always have a jumpseater in and out of EWR.
If I'm switching planes in O'Hare, I'm often saying "excuse me" or I notice people bumping in to each other.

However, With such a high percentage of revenue coming from the Overseas markets, that's something that being on Da bus.....I really don't see.

Gotta look farther back to 2013, Delta started hiring first again after years of no hiring…
