Tell us you're a NB pilot without telling us. Tons of Asia Marriott's give a stay if you simply get the breakfast buffet or have your shirt dry cleaned (which gets reimbursed lol)

None. It’s a stupid game that most of us have been baited into. Opt out. If you don’t think you spend more with a credit card, you’re wrong. https://www.ramseysolutions.com/debt...p-credit-cards
Even your article says ‘Well yeah, some people can pay their cards off but a lot of people don’t, so you won’t be able to either!’ Ramsey speaks to people who can’t effectively manage finances themselves.
Being bad with money is expensive whether you use cash or credit. The people paying 22% interest subsidize the free rewards for the rest of us.

Personally, I have a Schwab AmEx that gives me cash back immediately to my personal brokerage account.
As far as travel cards, I have the United Club Card Visa from Chase. Basically comes out to $440 a year with the annual United employee credit posted every March. If I visit a club alone 7-9 times a year it pays for itself, fewer visits if I bring in my first officers or partner. I do use it for long sits between flights as well when able and bring my FOs if they don't have club access themselves.
The other is a Marriott Boundless Visa from Chase. Start out the year with 15 nights credit and only need 35 stay credits to get platinum status. The $95 annual fee is easily paid for with the free night every year. Depending on the sign up bonus being offered at the time you apply you can definitely get a generous point credit to your account.
I agree with others about credit card interest. Since my second year at the old Continental Express when I was really making paultry money and had to use my CC, I have never paid one cent of interest in 25+ years. Use it like cash and make purchases only when you know you have the cash in your account to make that purchase. From there you can get a lot of perks and freebies. I have three other credit cards I never use after opening them for generous cash back statement credit when I was going to make big purchases around the time.

If you're willing to splurge a little bit, I personally belive the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant and the United MileagePlus Club Card is the perfect combo for a United pilot. United and Marriott are very tight with eachother, so most our layover hotels are Marriott properties. I always book a Marriott property when I have an uncommutable trip, and depenidng the current promo can earn up to 21 points for every $1 spent on a room. I have aquired enough points for multiple free nights and have only hard this card for 6 months. The Marriott card automatically upgrades your account to Platinum Elite, giving you club access when available. On top of that, there's an annual $300 dining credit and annual free night award so the card practically pays for itself. With regards to the United Club Card, if you are a commuter it is amazing. Get to a hub 2 hours before your trip? Have a long sit in a hub? Throw on a jacket and get a free meal + coffee in the club. With how expensive airport food is, this card too will pay for itself fairly quickly.

Never say no to free! That isn't bad actually. I think I didn't pay for a vacation until about 5 years after I left 91k, and ran out of points.
