Post Francisco CAL used the same old excuses in every one of their hubs to justify the stupid decisions of the CEO of the week.

My personal favorite: they gave away one of CLE’s most valuable routes back in the day that had average, high-yield load factors above 90 percent almost year round. Their excuse? “There’s no opportunity for growth on that route.” That’s not the urban legend version, either. They actually published it in company updates and I might even still have a copy around here somewhere.

That’s when I stopped listening.

United used to run near 100% load factor on NRT BKK and SIN but never made a dime on those flights. Thats why they got rid of those routes and the NRT tags 10-15 years ago.

just because there are people on the plane doesn’t mean they are making money.

Thanks for the tip but “high yield” is the old school way of saying we’re making money on the route.
