UA Openers

With the DAL opener letter dropping today: The Delta MEC has identified a clear window of opportunity to secure immediate, high-value gains for the pilot group on an accelerated time frame. Rather than pursuing a traditional contract term of 3–4 years (which is frequently accompanied by a lengthy negotiation), we are pursuing a short-term agreement focused on a core set of significant economic and quality of life gains that deliver solutions now. This strategy allows us to build on our industry-setting contract, respond to current conditions, and continue to advance pilot priorities while preserving the ability to return to the table in short order for the next round.

Including:

Scope provisions to protect Delta pilot jobs

Industry leading pay rates with protection to ensure DAL pilots do not fall behind other carriers

Industry leading company contributions to retirement

Additional holidays for holiday pay Improve the value of vacation days

Enhance the quality of layover hotels

Improve deadhead provisions

Improve commuter protections

Expand non-revenue travel benefits

Enhance schedule flexibility

Increase instructor protections

And with our ‘27 opening letter coming in January. What are some things you would like to see on the ticket? Surveys are just around the corner.

One million dollars an hour. Or better pillows for the bunk. Either one is good for me.

Get rid of “mini packing” trips. IYKYK

OK it’s a scheduling sleight of hand they use when you have 2 trips back to back and you finish late on the first one and you no longer recieve contractual “domicile rest” between trips. Scheduling simply combines the two trips and makes your domicile a layover station. They have to offer a hotel to you. So there’s that. Domicile rest is only applicable in trip construction. Once in the operation, it no longer means anything.

If they want to keep the current BS pay for CBTs for Pilot **** that’s fine.

BUT

If you are going to make me spend 7hours away from my family listening to nonsense corporate Bull**** then I need to be paid 100% of my hourly rate.

Items I'd like to see touched on via survey:

- RSV monthly coverage pool governed by transparent, formula driven rules >> predictable LH trip trading/dropping and RSV scheduling

-Enable LH drop to be picked-up by another LH directly. >>No bad day/worse day barrier, treat same as a "pilot trade" to any LH with straight pick-ups in seniority order, without having to meet bad day/worse day trade criteria to enter open time (enhance group schedule flexibility)

- All days credit min value 5:15. Vacation, training, RSV, any work day = same min credit as LH (5:15 currently) >> drives more days off per month and gives more flexibility to entire pilot group. Min workers works less, max piggy bankers can accumulate more. Drives better RSV scheduling (no more 18 day summer months)

- Trip reassignment pay: 1st instance = 50% PPU add pay, 2nd instance = 100% PPU add pay >> No more LH flying "reserve" assignments (or being swapped from your AUA all day L/O to min-rest milk runs at the whim of the scheduling computer)

- Commuter rules: at least match AA's one flight/transportation policy. Majority of UA pilots are commuters, no excuse to lag industry standards here.

- PRAP improvement: DC step-ups to 20% and 22%, no cap on company DC. >>Enable filling of 401k prior to IRS $350k cutoff without individual contributions needed. All "spill" beyond IRS limits sent to pilot as PRAP cash or the appropriate, UPA negotiated retirement vehicle (also still support annual election by pilot, if legally viable)

Great suggestions. But “the majority of UA pilots are commuters”??? Where did you get this from?

I will say that if minipack happens, there should be some OT pay associated with it.

ALPA said that a number of years ago, but who knows since we’ve hired so many people in the last few years.

68% of UA pilots are commuters according to the sign at the CPO office in ORD.

This part is already possible. If someone has a drop in and another pilot has a pickup for that trip either by criteria or directly, it will execute on the next trade run.

What you can’t do without calling scheduling is a p2p drop/pickup outside of the trade run.
