Default Trip Trade

Does continental have a trip trade system? The one we have at ual is worthless. How does cal work their lca's? Is it just a windfall like it is here for a select few?

On CCS, there is a Trip Shopping option which allows you to pull up open and advertised trips within individual BESs. The ability to actually trip trade is based on the reserve coverage. As an example, if you have a four-day and you are trying to trade for a three-day worth the same amount of time, the day you are trying to drop (if the trips are overlapping) must be above minimum coverage to do it. Generally, most trades can be done online. However, within 24-hours I believe you have to make a call to crew scheduling.

Haven't seen a day above coverage since we changed to PBS from PCL's.

Hmmmmmm... wonder if there's a correlation?

Just to clarify, a trip trade involving an Open Time trip is dependent on reserve coverage. A mutual trade between two pilots (can also be done over the computer) is only dependent on each pilots individual limits (30/7, etc).

You can advertise a whole pairing for straight pickup, a part of a pairing for pickup (must start and finish at base, ie. can't advertise IAH-XXX for pickup, must be IAH-XXX-IAH), or advertise a pairing for mutual trade.

Unless you are part of thr trip trading mafia that exists at CAL. If you are part of that group you have nothing to worry about. You have a band of brothers (most junior) picking up time and trading it amongst themselves. It's a sad situation. It needs to be taken care of with this contract.

True only if you're trying to trade for less days (ie your 4 day for a 3 day in open time). If it's day for day with open time then reserve coverage doesn't matter and the trade can be accomplished electronically without talking to scheduling as long as one's legal for the open time pairing. FWIW, in my BES as the month goes on I find trips in open time are much better than what PBS gives me.

Better luck then me man. Ever since Abbott did my BES a huge favor , the quality of open time has plummeted. CAL's trip trading is pretty good on the whole. There rarely is reserve coverage so don't plan on using it to get extra time off. Sometimes when a hub gets whacked w/wx and the coverage plummets, I've used trip trading to go to work earlier in week in order to get weekend off.

That being said you can set up Alerts on CCS that sends you a text the minute a trip falls in. That can make a huge difference in your pay check/QOL at the end of a month. As far as a windfall, well some guys literally have no life and are on their laptops within seconds of something going into open time. We have had a 'secret mafia' problem w/EWR 76 trips, but getting into it is not worth my brain cells.

Hey, I resemble that remark . Often, I'm on the computer and the BB calling scheduling concurrently trying to trade my PBS crap for something more palatable.
