Unical Retirements
December 13, 2012....A day that will live in infamy..... :D I did the UAL retirements myself using the search function on the seniority list. I lifted the CAL retirements off this forum. In the first five years of age 65 retirements, 2013-2017, 2000+ will be gone.

I read somewhere it is a retirement every 18 hours beginning in December 2012.

:o.....Sadly, I'm afraid December 2012 might be the next "positive" thing for this pilot group. I would contend that age 65 did as much to destroy career expectations as $100+oil, 9/11, etc......Thanks again Prater!

Sounds about right. In 2013 there will be 1.1 retirements per day, on average, every day of the year!!

With those numbers, hopefully they don't change the Firetruck wash on the last leg to a few ground agents with spray bottles as you park at the gate.

Jsled, did the numbers myself a little under a year ago and yours are right on. Looking at it from the prospective that UAL cut 950 (involuntary) of the payroll; by the end of this year the sum total of retires (without age 65) would be approximately 815. Even with oil volatility more people would still be on the property today, not to mention the upward movement of those still there...
On a side note, heard the company is concerned that as that infamous date closes in more retires will begin cashing out their sick time going into retirement. My thoughts? I think these geriatrics will still be leaving money on the table, walking away leaving a sick bank equaling 1000's hours/dollars... |
Well the hell would u hang out and retire with more than 1000 hrs a year, why? Makes no sense. Hell that right there is ur fn retirement plan.
Please use ur sick time. U cant take it with you and ur nt going to get compensated for it. Do skmething for the junior guys- its not like its costing you anything. |
