Thanks for putting the matrix together. Is there anyway you can refine the list with percentages of retirement in each seat. Age 65 retirements, at least at UAL, does not mean Captain Widebody retirements as it did in the past. Thanks

I'm not sure if that would mean anything past 2012-13. Without knowing what the SLI fences look like, fleet changes, etc. producing a long term chart on current static info wouldn't be meaningful IMO

Based on current combined lists, forecast retirements are roughly 4-5% of the list per year.

After that and the accompanying seniority hatred you all can engage in the whole who ruined who's career sh!t show. Hotheads can go ahead and burn this place down like Us Air for all I care, but we've worked hard enough of the last few years that we deserve our payday w/retro. Get the freaking contract and those that need to can wow each other with their pecker size arguments.

Just wanted to clarify some facts here as someone who had a front row seat to the Age 65 legislation.

Many bills had been proposed in Congress then languished over the years. Once ICAO went to a 65 standard it was fait accompli. Congress then swiftly passed the bill. Once Congress passed the bill, it was hand delivered to GW Bush the same day for immediate signing, in order to prevent a few more days of 60 year old forced retirements. GW Bush had nothing to do with Age 65 other than signing the bill presented to him by Congress.

Don't blame Bush, the culprits were in Congress.

I am thinking that once set your emotions aside and actually read the financials CAL was no sweetheart that doesn't have the capability to save anything. In fact when your really get down the brass tacks what exactly is CAl bringing to the table that UAL didn't already have and much more of?

A better management team that actually is interested in building and running a solid airline? Apparently not.

A better route structure either domestic or international? Nope

An almost irrelevant international route structure? Oh yeah

Please remind me exactly what it is that CAL is bringing to the table that is so earth shattering?

OMG. I thought I read the last of this back and forth months ago. How are we off the topic of retirements in this thread and back to this childish "my company's c**k is bigger than your company's" crap again?

Everything else aside, the only thing I heard from United workers I talked to when this merger was announced was they were happy to be getting better management. I said then that they shouldn't be so sure that our management was much better than what they had.

The fact of the matter is Smisek and his team had a choice when they announced this combination and the integration of employees. He could have started off with the pilots on board (along with other work groups) and done all he could to make this go smoothly in the likes of the DL-NW merger. He didn't do that. At every turn he has made snide comments and done all he could to test the limits of contracts, annoy the work groups, etc. His actions are not that of DL's Anderson and every day that passes by he shows that he doesn't really want the same employee and customer friendly merger our rivals in ATL managed to achieve.

Haven't heard much 'we saved your @SS talk' on this board nor on the line. Have heard plenty from those on both sides who think their side was just fine without the other party. That's where you fit in. Congrats on your huge Johnson. It sure scares Sismek...

Johnson envy aside..

When are you going to figure out that there is no them and us we're all in the same boat?

We will see in May when the CAL LAX base opens. Been hearing many bad things from pilots and mgmt alike saying that UAL ain't happy about it and isn't going to play nice in the sandbox.
