I wish very much that we could post names of the winners, but that would probably lead to some sort of an injunction from the" court happy" Jeffrey.
On a lighter note.....it's good to know that there's extra funds available to pay more when there's a chance a plane won't move.

They called me today. I always answer. I called in sick on Monday for a 4 day. When asked if I could help out I asked how I sounded (I'm very congested).....then he asked me if I was still too sick.....I kinda giggled. I love talking to them.

I'm surprised my phone hasn't been ringing with an "excellent opportunity to make some extra cash." Not that I would answer on my days off, but I enjoy the voicemails that are left as schedulers try their best to sell you on giving up your days off.

L-CAL's CCS Posting on Friday evening
If you are a B737 Captain or First Officer in IAH, EWR, CLE, or LAX that does a straight pickup
of a full trip pairing from open time that originates on
December 17, 2011 through December 19, 2011, that pickup will be treated as a “voluntary
junior manning” (VJM) event and you will be paid a minimum of 4:30/day or flight time
flown, whichever is greater, at 150% of your normal hourly rate.

I don't know the rules of your contract, but, can't you just say "no, I'm busy" if they"re calling to ask you to work on a day off? If someone has a current CAL CBA and could email it, please shoot me a PM and I'll give an email address.

On the road w/ iPhone in pocket, but I do know that the word "unavailable" is all that needs to the stated....paragraphing....A pilot does NOT have to "available" on his days off per the CAL-CBA. Nothing beyond that word needs to be explained on a recorded line w/ our 'friends' in scheduling.

The rules say a pilot has to be "available" for junior manning. If for some reason a pilot mistakenly answers the phone call from scheduling without thinking and CS states he/she has been junior manned, all the pilot has to say is: "I'm sorry, but I am not available for the junior manning assignment." Simple as that. As was indicated before, no explanations, no bargaining, no pleading or begging. The reasons you are "not available" to work on your day off may be plenty but they are not the business of crew scheduling.
