Confirmed - new hires still pay for housing in training (don't expect that to change with much higher priorities on our current contract negotiations).

I believe FDX new hires have to pay for hotel rooms.

We paid for our digs and slop as new hires at UAL in '97.

Shows you haven't been in this business that long. It was common up till the 90s to pay for their digs until you graduated from new-hire school.

My buddy and I rented a furnished apartment for three months and we were their best renters (says something about the neighborhood).

You're right..........only since 88, but I've never had to pay for accomodations at ANY place I've worked for new-hire training. That's from Pan Am Express until now. In 24 years I don't call that too bad..........now the pay is something else...............

Oops, should have clarified my statement: AT CAL I don't think they've ever had to pay for their accomodations during initial training, at least since 98 . I know at Kalitta during CA upgrade you have to foot the bill for your hotel during the training. CAL's also footing the bill for the first uniform for the UAL guys now too, something we had to pay for on our own when we were hired.

I think they (CAL) know, if they didn't provide the uniform, nobody would buy it. They would just get some black pants and not wear a "dinner" jacket or hat. Especially when there is a new uniform coming out.

Well, as a new hire at UAL in '08, I had to pay for accommodations during initial training, so I was curious, thanks. But they did buy uniforms, it's nice, barley used!

Hotel is paid for by the company.
