Lee, I usually enjoy your posts both here and on the "other" forum as you tend to be pragmatic and level headed in your views on things. Let me ask you this though. Would you hang out with someone that is suing you, or would you wait until there is a resolution to that issue before engaging with them again?

Until BOTH grievances that the UA MEC has against the CAL MEC and UACH over profit sharing are resolved, I can't see how the MEC's can effectively work together.

Hi, I have not seen the language/details of the Grievance filed but I claim ignorance on my part..I thought the grievances were filed against the UCH not CAL ALPA. Also grievances are not law suits...Again I am not up to speed on the status of the grievance but I will ask our local grievance chair for an update.

The outcome, or fallout, of Friday's MEC meeting will be the defining moment for the CAL MEC. I have spoken with my rep, and he understands this as well. Unfortunately he is always on the losing end of the voting when it comes to issues that Pierce wants.

I am increasingly concerned that the events leading up to today have been carefully choreographed to allow Pierce and his MEC followers to throw up their hands and decide to pull a DAL and their infamous "LOA 19" end run around the NW MEC and craft a deal with Mgmt to "get a deal, any deal" with or without the UA MEC being on board and conveniently leaving several hundred million on the table by taking a substandard TA and guaranteeing a position at the right hand of Smisek.

We all like to think we are on the good side, or the right side. No one likes to think of themselves as being the bad guy, but we live in a polarizing black and white world. I hate to say it, but as a CAL guy I fear that the CAL MC, and, by extension, his supporters on the MEC are on the wrong side.

Friday will be the litmus test that they either pass by extending unconditional support for the UA message, or fail by coming up with more excuses to keep the "powder dry."

My point still stands...demand accountability with both MECs, which includes UA and JH as well as CALs...for this hand grenade and lack of coordination and comm..

How has the CAL pilots held JP accountable? I recall several examples on the UAL side, but I think you already that.

Good Post!

Sad what is going on.
After waking up today and seeing the message on CCS that I won't get my schedule till Monday (4 days late!) and NOT seeing any messages from my MEC about the actions taken by the UAL MEC, I'm left thinking about what I said a few months back to the MEC/LEC- That our Profit Sharing deal was a bad deal that would ultimately hurt Unity.

I fully support the UAL MEC's message. Enough is enough. I am just troubled that we've heard nothing from the CAL side.
-if UAL MEC did it alone, without any forewarning sent to the CAL MEC, not good.
-if UAL MEC did tell the CAL side, and yet we hear nothing from the CAL MEC, not good either.

My one big question with all this is, where is ALPA National?
I can't believe that the UAL MEC would pull this trigger without at least telling ALPA National what they are doing.. and if ALPA National knew- wouldn't they reach out to the CAL MEC and make sure this fits into the big picture of a strategic plan?

Again, I am baffled at the silence from the CAL MEC's (my MEC!) side.

We are living in interesting times.

Always
Motch

PS> Hope to meet some of you tonight at the Fam Aware deal in NJ~

Hi Lee, you're right in that a grievance is not a lawsuit, but the underlying concept is still the same. They do have a grievance against both UCH for the failure to conform to your contractual profit sharing formula, and against CAL ALPA for status quo violations around the profit sharing.

Upon reflecting on this issue I have changed my view on its importance. It is a cop out for the CAL MC to use this as an excuse to sever ties. Professionals get the job done, period.

As I stated in my post above this, I have to question the motives of our MC and his supporters in the MEC. Friday, imho, will demonstrate if we are the cowboys or the Indians based on what direction our MEC decides to jump.

This Lee is an excuse and yes they have an excuse for everything they do.

Thank you for showing the opinion, as an LCAL pilot, that most pilots on both sides are thinking.
Hopefully an overwhelming majority also show their disagreement with any compromised side deal
ala LOA 19 and we become fully unified over this seeming disparity in MEC's and weak company offers.
