50-125? That's quite a spread, no?

Here's part of today's C12 (ORD) update:
"Management will begin recalls of our furloughees in January. Initially, up to 125 pilots will be sent recall notices. We expect the first notices to go out this week. The large bid we have all seen on the CAL side took into consideration that our UAL furloughees will return to the UAL side during the next year, the period covered by the bid. Additionally, with the retirements expected in 2013 and beyond, we expect recalls to continue until all of our furloughed pilots have returned to the line. The long awaited return of our brothers and sisters is on the horizon." |

I'm not so sure about that. IMHO, those L-UAL furloughees who really desired the "free" type rating would have taken the CAL job offer because quitting CAL does not affect a L-UAL recall. A L-UAL furloughee can't take this recall and quit UAL without forfeiting a seniority number. Even if one has no intention to return to UAL why burn a seniority number if you don't have to?
Considering that the many of the more senior L-UAL pilots that took voluntary furlough are sitting on the bottom of the S-CAL list what this recall will cause is an exodus from CAL as those pilots can return to their rightful seats at UAL (widebody FO/narrowbody CA, ect). Assuming, of course, that the JCBA does not address the issue further. |
The last time we were recalled we had to take what we were given regardless of what our seniority could hold. There was no trading allowed like when we were new hires back in 1999-2001. We got a seat lock for 3 years so we were all effectively stuck at the bottom worst paying job for all that time unless we could bid Capt.
Some recalls quit because they were given the Guppy which was only on the east coast and they lived on the west coast and didn't want to commute for 3 years. I maybe asking to much but what I'd like to see is being able to bid just like any other pilot in the system. Then when something comes up that I can hold I get offered a class date for it. As long as it's within the 10 years of course. I don't mind a seat lock if it's something I want, but my entire career has been locked into something I didn't want or bid. Any thoughts? |
Very good news.
Now the next question is will we finally be getting on an escalator or will we just be taking another trip through the meat grinder? Furlough Willy Optimistic Skeptic  |
sure hope we have a JCBA by then
As a twice furloughed UAL guy (guppy both times), I sure hope there is a JCBA in place before they call me. I know I can bypass with the ten year deal, but frankly, I'd be very interested in returning as soon as I was asked IF:
a) the pay was decent (don't want to take a pay cut) b) they gave me DOH longevity (I shouldn't say "give" - I have earned it) c) I know what the SLI will be (and can therefore project my career expectations). d) the JCBA has decent scope clauses (so I know I won't get "outsourced" just as soon as mgmt can do it). Bottom line is I would love to find myself back at a QUALITY UAL/CAL merged company with decent pay, decent career expectations, doing something that I've missed, was good at, and loved doing. I wouldn't mind at all flying one of those new 737 Max's that are coming (assuming I could be left seat in it before I die/retire!). Matt |

The only difference this time is vol furloughs, as I remember the agreement, will return to their original fleet/seat unless there is no opening. If that is the case, then they get to bid for what their seniority will hold that has openings....or something like that. Personally, I think I'm gonna hang out on the sideline for awhile. Lee |
