Default Probation/Longevity

Can someone explain to me what year my husband would go back to for purpose of longevity pay if he didn't quite finish his probation year (one month left) before he got furloughed (Jan 2009)? He is overseas and can't read the contract quite yet. Thanks for any info.

He would start right where he was when furloughed and then move to second year upon completion of 12 months of service at either subsidiary.

Under the TA if he was a Feb 08 hire, he would be approaching5 years of Longevity in Feb 13.

Same as if he'd been hired with the '99-'01 crowd at UAL.....that can't be right, right?

(need the emoticon that shows a middle aged man weeping uncontrollably and saying over and over, "Why.....why.....?"

I don't think anyone knows the answer. The wording in the contract is very confusing. It also depends on how the seniority list looks after integration. I'm not a United pilot, but I have access to their TA.

This needs to be asked in the roadshows for sure. The language at this point doesn't seem very clear to me. Your husband should submit the question to the question and answer section of the contract website to get a definitive answer. On this forum, there are just opinions.

Two scenarios:

1. If he returns before a JCBA, he would return with probation being waived based on a final determination made in Oct on the intent of the T&PA. He would also only have to complete one month (if your numbers are correct, see below) active at CAL then start on 2nd year pay based on their current pay scale (don't have that figure handy). In other words, he gets credit for the 11 months at UAL to get off first year pay. This was a recent development, but the math they'll use to come up with the actual 2nd year pay trigger will be based on UAL pay longevity which isn't date of hire, rather date of training completion on initial qualification (about 2 months difference from DOH on average).

2. If the TA is passed and he returns, then he'll get credit for 4 years of furlough and go to 5th year pay (based on LOA 25 in the TA) of the new pay scale.

Clear as mud!?
