United layoffs: United Continental to lay off 600 workers amid weak earnings - chicagotribune.com

Some UAL pilots have been on furlough for going on 10 years and are still on the street. I'm shocked that anyone would consider applying here until the company actually showed some stability.
From DAL's internal news publication,

Richard said he enjoyed his visit to MSP where the hub was also celebrating its ranking as top hub in Delta’s system for 2012. He witnessed the flash mob dance by employees and enjoyed the Profit Sharing festivities as employees were paid a total of $372 million this year, a record payout. “It makes me want to work that much harder for everyone to make sure we have a day like this every year,” he said.

Delta people also earned $91 million in Shared Reward for hitting 36 out of 36 operational goals in 2012 and December was no exception to the ongoing great operational performance, he said. It was the 17th consecutive month of maximum payouts as Delta led its peer group in on-time performance and recorded its lowest overall complaint rate since the U.S. Department of Transportation first gathered the statistic in 1997. “Let’s keep the momentum going,” he added.

I recently had a Marvin tell me how important it is (now, post JCBA) that we all haul a$$, SE Taxi, go straight through TRWs, reinvent SOPs, etc. etc. etc. in order to maximize our PS. I looked at him as though he were mysteriously growing a third eye right in front of me.

If the dudes with their hands on the tiller continually point the ship at the rocks it doesn't matter how hard we row. This is shaping up to be a great summer.

My latest PS check is nothing more than an insult after all we've been through.

How quickly we forget the Shares debacle and a departed cfo who with the stroke of a pen, ran up a billion dollar fuel hedge charge. Marvin can do his one man podium act, se taxi, etc etc, but the customer will only remember a 5 minute sit waiting for a guideman. Our job is to safely fly from a to b, period.

Father Gweed,

My job is not to go from A to B. You see, I am on Reserve. Perpetual reserve.
My job is to stay home and wait for the phone to ring. That is my assignment and my monthly schedule. The minute the phone rings the whole dynamic is messed up as I am no longer on reserve. I should remain on reserve. I should be home waiting for the phone to ring while studying the FARs. I should NOT be going from A to B.

I put one million points each on:
'avoid work'
'avoid airports'
'avoid uniforms'
'avoid hotels'
'avoid suitcase'
'avoid defying gravity'
'avoid pin stripe tie'
'avoid plastic pants'
'avoid Marvins'
'avoid TSA'
'avoid CP's'
'avoid crew lot'
'avoid 8 hour alcohol restriction'
'avoid EWR, ORD, IAD, LAX, SFO, MEX, LGA, OMA, RDU, BDL, JFK, BWI, BWI, BWI, BWI!!, DCA, SJC, OAK, PDX, TPA, DEN, ABQ, SEA, YYZ, RIC, OKC, TUL, ADM, RVS, OKM, CLT, PHL, SBY, LYH, DSM, BOS, PVD, BIL, GEG, PHX, MIA, MSY...............
etc.

I need to be ready for work. That's it.

That is all well and good, but you will still go into denial mode because you didn't specifically put "AVOID Airplanes" as part of your bid group. Therefore you will either get a 98-hour, 12-day off line or a 70-hour 12-day off line.

Not anymore! There is no such thing as a 12 day off 70 hour line starting March 1. 12 days off pays 90 hours or more

PS, I know you were just joking around.... Just glad that 5HD is kicking in as the not-so-proud recipient of the standard 15 hour 4 day and 10 hour 3 day multiple times a month for the last decade
