You keep saying this. What merger mania was happening when BOTH CAL and FedEx (re)joined ALPA in 2001?

The truth is that ALPA National was on a dues drive and specifically went after CAL, FedEx, and AA. They got two of three.

Just one correction: the UAL/CAL "virtual merger" (their words, not mine) was also announced in June 2008 just days after both UAL and CAL announced the retirement of the 737-300/500s on the same day.

Sure whatever you think, merger talks and rumours were already started, good protection though, it should work well for you.

Nyah, nyah, you weren't profitable, so you get stapled.

Just responding to the idea that anyone's career expectations in the '90s has anything to do with reality.

"Career expectations" is the biggest bunch hogwash flowing. No one in the airline business has ANY career expectations.

Ask any Eastern, TWA or Pan Am pilot, if you're old enough to remember those outfits.

What a bunch of B.S.

This is EXACTLY why replacing DoH with "career expectations" in the ALPA merger/frag policy was the biggest blunder in the last 75 years of ALPA. And why did it happen? Because UAL was trying to protect their widebody seats from USAir pilots in the failed merger proposition in the '90s.

Looks like that chicken is coming home to roost.

Why don't you go bend Capt Cassidy's ear on the topic?? After all, at least your carrier has direct representation by way of a National Officer.

Awesome is in the eye of the beholder. He did what he set out to do.

Because politicians count votes. And the "Big Three" have the votes. Nothing is going to change until THEY want it changed.

In that case, for edification, "Awesome" was marinaded in 100% sarcasm.
