Default Fences

Was told by a colleague that there are no temporary fences between Continental and United. Is this true? And if so why? We, American guys, are hoping to have fences up you can see from orbit!

My wild-a$$ guess is that your colleague is making a wild-a$$ guess based on the statement by our CEO that he wants no fences. Nobody actually knows [yet] what the arbitrators will come up with.

How magnanimous of you, considering "fences seen from orbit" is about as ridiculous as the USAirways argument will be "we bought you, this is not a merger."

The Republic/Northwest merger resulted in 20 year fences!!! The NWA/DAL merger resulted in......wait for it......5 year fences around the 777/747/787 from date of SOC. Of course the 787 fence was pointless, but the arbitrated list came out in 2008 with the 787 schedlued to be in service in 2010. And to be fair, Delta/NWA both brought WBs to the merger. Republic did not. Hard to guess what any arbitrator will do.

I would love to be at the meeting when the USair guys and the American guys both bring in their staplers..."We're stapling YOU to the bottom......no WE'RE stapling YOU to the bottom!"

Both groups have a history of treating merger partners poorly.

This is going to be a colossal mess.

To say that this is going to be a colossal mess is the understatement of the century. Fences do not need to be arbitrated. I knew there were fences at Delta/ Northwest and i thought the whole United/ Continental thing was further along. I guess we will find out..

No fences other than a 5 year fence on the wide bodies is the only fair thing.

SLI is on going. No fences yet, if there are, it will be as a result of this process. Not expected to be completed till maybe Aug.

Why is that the only fair thing?
