Entitlement crowd of 2005-2008 ? Whatever, I fly with tons of guys in that seniority range, never had an issue. Complete nonsense. Plus $200k a year, medical, retirement free drycleaning!! etc the "crops" aren't exactly dead in the field, I can always want the best for my profession and there is room for improvements, but I can't think of another career that offers what I have. Lighten up :-)

I am shocked at recent developments with my own airline career. The entitlement crowd of CAL 2005-2008 hires who are more then willing to walk over the backs of ALPA brothers. I wear a 20 year ALPA pin and am ashamed at pilots on BOTH sides of this nightmare.

We all need to look in the mirror and really think about what we are looking at.

I heard a story recently from a CAL Capt about his F/O he was flying with after his IOE.. This FO made it clear that he was going to give him "the real IOE" and let him know how it is done from the right seat. Was this F/O a 20 year veteran? No....rather another self entitled "gimme-gimme-gimme" 2005 hire at CAL.

My old man made one statement that really rings out to this day.

"I am not giving you this career as I received it in 1965---I am sorry the field I am letting you grow the crop in will not yield anything worth selling"

Sadly this career has been sliding backwards since the early 80's if not sooner than that. We only have ourselves to blame.

I read your post, and I agree with most of it. I do find the portion of your post about the 2005-2006 hires a tad offensive. I was hired in 2006 after flying for the military, so my ALPA experience is limited, but I never want career progression at the expense of someone else. So painting everyone in that group with a broad stroke is a little bothersome. I plan on having a long career at the combined United; I want to come to work do the job, and enjoy the comradery of the pilots I fly with. I've read a majority of your posts, and they all tend to come from a level headed point of view so I don't want you to think I'm angry or upset by this one. After all the blustery posts on APC and Calforums I can see how everyone's blood pressure is a little high on both sides of the airline.

Hopefully after the arbitrators decide what the list looks like we are both equally disapointed enough to grab a beer and politely complain about the outcome.

Upon further reflection I should have worded my words more carefully and not group all pilots in the 2005-2008 range....point taken.

Would be happy to have a beer with you anytime!

Fly safe...

Call it what you want, Sport. Thumping your chest like a tough guy isn't going to alter the supply and demand of pilot labor one iota any more than thinking a labor action was somehow going to stop deregulation.

Interesting dream though.

Not sure i agree that ALL of the things you mentioned are the fault of the LUAL pilots. But, as a CAL 05-08 hire, if you have a trip with us, you had better be prepared to have yourself a kick ass rip roarin 4 day!!! I disagree that we are a bunch of entitled babies. I hope you change your mind.

Many 2005 hires are most definitely 20 year veterans from 2-3 previous airlines. Some even came from United after being furloughed and now like their 2005-6 hire status better than their 1999 United date.

You might as well call them the 2000-6 hires at CAL. What's the difference between a 2001 and a 2005 anyway?

Nothing. The first 2005 is one number behind the last 2001. Nobody hired anybody in the interim.

So, I'm curious now!! After "further reflection" how would you have re-worded that offensive statement?

I'm curious too! I'm an 05-08 hire. I did bad times and good times, but I don't see myself as a baby who feels entitled..? I did 14 years active mil before CAL. What else do you want?

You'll like most of us. Just wait.

I don't recall a planned labor action to stop deregulation CHAMP but there was a labor action to stop the likes of frank and his merry bunch of "free market pilots". You ever wonder how many lives were affected by the group that you supported. Curious, are you waiting to take advantage of the market forces again?
