Yeah those 74s rate right up there with all of Emirates equipment.....What's the age difference between the two fleets Lee?

The age of a plane these days means almost nothing. It all depends on how much you spend on MX and the interiors. Since Glenn was only in it for his bonus money, of course our planes look crappy. Everyone on the CO side is forgetting, it's only money- and how it looks can have very little to do with how it performs. Any plane can look or perform like any other, again it's only money. And the bean counters determine the point where investing in old equipment gets more expensive than a new plane.
Put a new interior and paint on the outside, the worst plane in the world wouldn't matter to the pax. What we need is MX and interiors. That is where Delta is killing us. An old maintained plane can cost a lot less than payments on a new plane. Once the Max and NEO's are out, you will see current generation planes retiring in droves even 737-700,800 & 900's, fuel costs are the exception to the above. Current generation 737's are not that much better fuel wise than our old 737-300's. The Max will change all that. |

Ever notice how CAL pilots know exactly how old our 747s are but can't remember the date they were hired?

That's the big question. As we know, in the US a good share of the international traffic does not originate in the hubs but is instead fed by the spokes.
At JFK we are witnessing JetBlue transforming itself into the narrowbody version of Skywest and feeding multiple international "partners." Who will fill that role for Emirates elsewhere? |

So how many have you "tossed" off over the years Lee? I assume you also have the master list.

I had to write up the jump seat seatbelt harness last minute before pushback a few times. Too bad for the guy, maintenance always comes back with a no time to fix deferral. Bummer. Does that answer your question?

Dave, not only does the 400 look crappy but they spent so little on mx that it had a base closed, ord. It was cx all the time to nrt and hkg, cx or delay. So it hurt much more than just the look.
747-8's and 777X's might be a better choice. |

Agreed. Need to spend money on all the planes. It will take a lot to catch up with Delta. New planes are a start. Money for MX also goes that direction. I think the move of the 747 is a good one. I don't know if the 350 will be the answer or not.
