I also got the call for feb class. Have some questions on equip/bases. I currently live in nh...
Planning on commuting initially but will probably/eventually move. Ewr is closest commute...
what equipm would give me best qol quickest?
I care for:
Off reserve quickest, Most time off, minimum amount of comutes(ideally 4day trips starting on saturdays as it jives with wifes sched, 3times a month.)
Dont care:
for cockpit size, overnights, flying alot, pay.

thank you in advance for all replies and really excited to get onboard.

Airbus to Newark...that would be my vote. I base that on the ability to move off reserve the quickest.

I was gonna say guppy. The upward mobility I think will be the same, however the diversity of flying is better on the gup.

Even though i fly the bus for my current employer i dont mind flying either acft. On another note do u guys bid for a line for entire month or trips like a pbs?

It's all PBS. You need to lower your expectations just a tad. When you do become a Lineholder, you can expect 4 four day trips...starting on a Friday and returning Monday night. On further review, I would also agree with going to the guppy. It's a much bigger fleet and the amount of flying makes it more likely to be able to trade to try and improve your schedule. If you could commute to LGA from MHT, you might be able to bid the LGA trips that usually get avoided.

Great info. Im just trying to plan long term not expecting to be a line holder for a while...dont know if there is eqp lock so was trying to plan ahead for a few years. Do both fleets start in ewr and lga? Thanks for heads up on mht...im 20 min away. Again thanks for all the replies.

You're frozen in your pay band (bus/guppy) for 24 mos. You can always bid up to 67, 777, etc at any time regardless of current freeze.

Bus and guppy cover both airports.

You will probably find that there is a wider variety on the 737. They do Hawaii, Caribbean, Mexico, and lots of transcons. I would say just because of the variety of flying and more potential trips, you will do better on the 737 as a new hire than the airbus.

737 hands down, it is the growth aircraft and will always be jr and with more aircraft coming online each month, you will move up quickly, hold a line quickly and hold a good line quickly(17 days off per month, most weekends off and fun Carribean layovers). Bus has some of that, but by looking at how many 737s are being brought online, even if it means a few extra months of reserve, 737 is the way to go.
