5+ years at American Eagle in the early '90s, 12+ years at Airborne Express/ABX Air mid-90s through '09. Never had the seniority to hold an upgrade. Got close a couple of times but then things started moving backwards.

Hope you don't mind if I shift gears and ask a question!

A good friend of mine is just retired from the USAF and is applying to UAL. What are the 'currency' requirements to stay competitive? IOW, how long can he wait around without getting a flying job?

Thanks!

Stats like this have become the norm from the lost decade. I have a friend who is going to interview soon. All SIC time from 767, L-1011, 777 and over 10K total.

Sir,

Thank you for the tutelage and enlightenment! I had no idea and was clearly ignorant of all things cleft lip. Your perspicacious insight and counsel are most welcome.

This Buds for you. Er, take your pick.

I'm a May 2014 hire on the bus. Got out of training in July and commuted to EWR. Got IAH this month and SFO already next month. I don't know if this info helps you but I commute from LAX and IAH is way easier of a commute. Also, the Crashpad situation in IAH is nicer. With the 73's growing movement will probably be better, but since the bus guys are all senior they are jumping off quick to other stuff including laterals to the 73 for better QOL. It's all a guessing game at this point. Also, LAX bus flying is shrinking a little.

Welcome to the show!! I think it is awesome that UAL will hire without the venerable "1000 TPIC". There are some airlines out there who won't even consider it. As if 17 years of Eagle/ABX is insufficient? Oh well, you probably didn't want to fly a 737 for the rest of your career anyway, right?

SoCalFlyr, thanks for the input. Is the A320 trending more junior than the 737 in EWR and IAH? Wondering if I'll move up the Airbus list quicker for QOL regardless of the commute. I might prefer that than worrying about how quickly I can get back to LAX.
