I probably should have included... Did any civilian get an interview without a job fair? :)

It all depends on one's definition of "shortly."

Fortunately for potential new-hires it looks like pilots accepting recall have slowed to a trickle for the January classes and with >700 back on property the big recall wave is apparently finished.

My definition (being optimistic) of shortly would be hearing calls going out the first or second week of January.

Good to know the recalls have slowed down. Thanks for that bit of info. Best of luck to us all for 2014!

Hope everyone enjoys their holidays!

Yes...all 121 time for me

workingforfree 01-03-2014 05:55 PM

Is the process still a quick pre-screen (verify info) call from HR, then Hogan test, then the interview invite?

As of three months ago, yes.

nfo99 01-04-2014 09:34 AM

Is Feb 5th when calls will begin again or first interviews starting up?

I looked back a few pages and could not find any reference to feb 5th. Perhaps I missed it. Where did you hear that date being of significance for the interview process resuming?

nfo99 01-06-2014 01:09 PM

Reread the email I got the date from. It said interviews done for awhile starting back up Feb 1 not 5 sorry. I just wasn't sure if it meant interviews firing back up then or calls and Hogans starting up again at that point.

Any United pilots ever hear of anyone getting a second interview in the past? (not this wave of course; it has not been a year of hiring) … I know CAL would do it, but not sure if United will.

Pre-merger UA did it also.

Slats Extend 01-08-2014 12:41 PM

The chances of a second interview is NIL. You either pass it or don't. The earliest the next interview would be is 12 months.

Thanks cadet.

And yes SE, I should have been more specific in my question. I mean of course after my 12 months is up.

Of course I am working with inside connections intensively to make it happen when the time comes, but I was just curious what has occurred in the past hiring cycles at United.

Thanks again.

I know several Legacy UAL guys who got hired on their 2nd interview.

Yep, and the numbers/stats I'm familiar with are the pre 9/11 ones. And YES, we ALL KNOW that was a while ago and things have changed.

But back then, the average was 1 in 10-12 got the nod the first time around. If a guy was invited back for another shot, the odds went to 50-50 shot.

How much weight do LORs from current United pilots help in the selection process? Is it safe to assume out of the 10,000 or so applications on file, that a great majority of them has LORs on file and that it really is no help to have one at this point in the game.

I have ten and two are family. Nothing. I have friends with similar that haven't heard a peep either.

So my chances of getting a call went from slightly, to nil. If pilots like yourself can't get a call, an average Joe like myself has no chance. Trying to be optimistic but it can get discouraging.

e6bpilot 01-09-2014 04:12 AM

Look at people that are getting calls. They run from the extremely well connected, very experienced guys to the very average joe with only a few recs and in the 3-4000 hour range. I am certainly not giving up hope even though I only have one internal rec. I keep updating my app. and keep working the networking. Hopefully it will all work out.

JetBlast77 01-09-2014 05:11 AM

I only had two internals and absolutely nothing special on my resume. I just kept going to job fairs and eventually it worked out. Don't lose hope! I had the lowest quals out of all the guys I interviewed with.

Recent Calls for Interviews

Thanks all to answering my question. Great to know info.

This.

Keep updating, networking, and soliciting recs until the phone rings. I know of guys that had over two dozen internal recs that finally got the call.

There are a lot of qualified folks you're competing against. Qualified with a couple of recs is probably above the curve, but that curve is still 10-12k deep.

Any corporate guys getting calls? I've done 121, 135, and 91. I fly 2 types for a large company. Things were great but are changing rapidly and looks like they will be forcing me to move soon and I DONT want to relocate my young kids to where they are moving us. I used to fly for a United Express carrier (Air Wisconsin) but was only there for 3 years. Does having experience in flying UAL pax carry any weight or is that pool already saturated?

Light Gray 01-26-2014 05:11 AM

Have any calls gone out in '14 yet? The expectation still Feb for the next round?

I sent you a PM

JetBlast77 01-26-2014 12:09 PM

I'm in class now and was told no calls/interviews until the second quarter of 2014. Apparently there are around 200 in the pool and they don't want much more than that. Of course, its always subject to change. Good luck!

Light Gray 01-26-2014 02:44 PM

Thanks for the words--is the tone optimistic for future hiring?

Cheers

That's good to hear. Sometimes it feels like us Corp guys are at a disadvantage when trying to go to a major. I'm trying to get on before my company forces me to move! Again!

Because corporate gigs just love to hire airline guys?!? Door swings both ways perhaps?

Easy killer!!! I've done 121, 135, and now am at a 91 gig. I was a better pilot when I flew 85 hrs a month than I am now that I fly 25 hrs a month. Personally I think it's all about the individual regarding customer service which is what 91 guys are supposed to have over a 121 guy. I call bs on that myself. If flown with great guys in all three areas. As well as d-bags in all three.
