Got the thanks but no thanks email later the same afternoon as I took the test. Oh well, it wasn't meant to be.

atr42flyer 09-04-2013 04:26 PM

is anyone getting called who checked yes to being arrested?

Yes.... I know of a few underage alcohol possessions of different people. In their 40's now for the math, but always take responsibility, no exuses and be able to smartly say how/what was learned. All these people had high level connections though, that may or may not have helped.

Some were hired, some not, but all were interviewed. I highly doubt it had any effect in them getting or not getting the job. When they call someone for an interview, they already know all of this from the app.... and they want to hire the people they call.

Good luck!

Does anyone know if there have been emails/calls that have gone out to anyone that does NOT have a bachelor degree?

This is not so far from reality. Everyone has a shot right now. Keep updating, the "magic" recipe is a secret

BYOB 09-04-2013 07:39 PM

Well, my 4 internal recs, 11K TT, 6K turbine PIC, check airman, Boy Scout, veteran, yet only a 2 year degree doesn't seem to know the magic formula.

I thought I'd ask. Who knows what is preventing me from receiving the email or a call. I've got former coworkers that have half the flight time, little to no turbine PIC, and yet they get the email/call and the job.

It's all very confusing.

Fear not Brasilia, Delta is gonna be hiring big time as well. You'll get in somewhere. Don't give up. It took me until my mid 40s to make it this far.

itsokimapilot 09-05-2013 04:51 AM

For those who've received the call. What time of the day do they call?

Did the former co-workers have four year degrees? If so, there's your answer. If not, keep persisting.

I hate to say it, but in the initial phase of the hiring cycle companies can select from candidates that have every single box checked. Even the ones that are not a requirement but are simply a preference.

WantTheJob 09-05-2013 07:22 AM

I would say after seeing the number of people getting called and getting to view some of their quals including people I know personally, it is all over the place. I can't understand the lack of contact for me as well.

I thought it may be currency, but I personally know 3-4 furloughed guys that haven't flown anything in over 6 months or more get hired.

I thought it may be TPIC time and we all know that story

I thought it may be lack of Job Fair attendance but many hired id not attend even one and many ta have attended every single one this year have not heard anything.

I though 4 year degree but then I know of 1 hired and 1 recently called for interview.

All in all I think there is a strong element of luck involved at this point and I don't think there is any one things that kills it, other than the fact that you are a complete jerk to a recruiter that you meet.

But then again, I may know nothing seeing how I haven't been contacted yet either.

Seriously? They have 11,000 apps on file, they've hired maybe 200 guys, interviewed maybe 3-400 and because your phone wasn't the first to ring it's all a big PC screw job directed at you?

BYOB I've yet to hear of anyone without a 4 year degree getting called, doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

flightmedic01 09-05-2013 09:08 AM

Were the 600 recalls announced today included in the hiring plans?

ERJ Jay 09-05-2013 09:17 AM

They need to find out who's coming back and who is not before they put any more fresh bodies in the schoolhouse.

sonnycrockett 09-05-2013 09:24 AM

I do not know of ANYONE hired lately without a 4 year degree. However last year when CAL was "interviewing" in the IAH Chief Pilots office...aka friends of Fred and Daddy Scab, some did fall through the cracks without one.

My recommendation is get the most education and flight time you can and keep your application up to date. Check Airman, IP,Stan Eval guy, etc... the more the better!

Tonne 09-08-2013 09:07 PM

Anyone know when united prints the apps in prep for our interviews? I've had to make a few changes because my times weren't adding up ... Got it now, but they are a little different than last week...

flybynuts 09-09-2013 12:33 AM

Tonne,
They are normally printed out the morning of the interview but sometimes the day before.

Why all the talk about arrest records? Doesn't the app ask for convictions? The (ar)rest would come out in the background check, after the interview.

Disregard the first or second "the same day"...

Quick question regarding the application on airlineapps. When I talked to the recruiters at a job fair, they mentioned if I did volunteer work, or activities outside of aviation, to put that on my resume. Is there a place on airlineapps to list these things? How are you guys listing these things? Are you putting it under the addendum's section under "other affiliates?" It would be nice to put this on the application so that it at least weeds you out from the other applications. Or that's the hope anyway. Thanks.

Calls are going out. UAL is interviewing 26 applicants a week in Denver.

Don't touch the affiliate section unless you are selecting one of the listed. There is a fine print above that section explaining this.

List you volunteer work in your resume. When you head for an interview when selected, they will look at your resume (bring it with.) Unfortunately the selection for an invite is based on the check boxes from the apps site. You get selected based on these answers and internal recs.

Well I think "Other - Specify Below" option applies to this situation. Bottom line, I think they want to know.

gvinflight 09-12-2013 06:12 AM

So for a guy that is unfamiliar, what exactly is the SLI?

Madmagpilot 09-12-2013 06:22 AM

Senority List Integration. It was released last week and it merged the L-CAL and L-UAL list. The completion on the SLI triggered the recall of UAL furloughed pilots. What that means is the remaining 500ish UAL pilots will get a chance at coming back on property or remain on bypass/Military leave status. There is a 2 week response window for the pilots to respond. Once the numbers are known the company will fill the remaining class slots with new hires.

More importantly, who is Sly.

He is an adopted member of the Family Stone. Duh!!!

oldmako 09-12-2013 08:43 AM

If one assumes that James is The Godfather, then certainly Sly is at least a Capo.

May the funk bombs explode. Get up off that thing and shake it till you feel better.

I would not think my work at habitat for humanity should be listed under the other section especially when the trend of the affiliates listed deal strictly with airline affiliation.

On a side note there used to be an option for Intern on there. I was a previous flight ops intern at regional carrier. So I put that under the "other" section as it seemed to fit the theme. I need to go back an check but I do not think Intern is even on the list anymore. Anyone else in my same shoes?

Toose 09-12-2013 10:54 AM

Recent Calls for Interviews

Intern is still listed but only if you were a cal or ual intern

You are correct. I could not recall if it was still there or not. So with that said, would my inclination to place other airline flight ops intern under the "other" section be more appropriate than showing I volunteer at Habitat for Humanity?

Jaxs170 09-15-2013 11:25 AM

So question for the Guard/Reserve crowd: If you have training within the US that would prohibit you from starting class, should you change you date of availibility?

My unit said they could make arrangements for me to get to an interview should I ever be fortunate to get a call for one, but I wouldn't be able to start class until all the training is complete in a few months.

If you interview and are offered a job, you have 12 months to accept a class date. Of course there would have to be a class available when you are able to take one...

Current plan is to hire +or - 40/month for the foreseeable future.

flybynuts 09-16-2013 03:23 AM

Jaxs,

We look at availability pretty close. We need people who are available within a few months for the most part. The pooling of candidates helps you in this case but when we look to setup interviews it is for those available sooner than later. You should be ok. Some mil guys with availability 6 months or more due to retirement or end of AD obligation usually don't get called until closer to end date or after end date. PM if you new more info. Good luck with training.

murkdaddy 09-16-2013 04:28 AM

Good morning all,

What bases and aircraft are new hires being awarded? Also, when do you find out your assignment?

thanks

flybynuts 09-16-2013 05:15 AM

New hires are currently filling 737/756 in IAH and some New York. After the second day you will have your base and airframe. However, the new hire classes are moving to Denver next month. The new hire class will be in a completely different format and you will have a mock bid on your second day so that you can go call the spouse and discuss what you can hold and where and what's best for you. The next day you will come in and bid it and then you have that plane and base. It will take a little time but eventually the Bus and other bases will be available for new hires. Plan is still oldest gets first choice and then next oldest, etc...
