Hi, anybody with an insight about Jr. base, what to expect and how senior is IAD?
|
Somewhat tricky to answer with the ISL having just come out.
Recently SFO 737 F/Os assignments went unfilled on the UA side. I think 737 F/Os went unfilled at all the CAL domiciles and I believe that EWR 757 F/Os went unfilled as well. A legacy CAL guy can speak more about exactly what has happened with their bids. As far as IAD goes, it has been pretty junior in recent years. However, at this point it doesn't have a 737 domicile, so if you were to get a 737 assignment to someplace else, you would need to have them open a new domicile there, or you would be stuck with no way to transfer. It does have a 320 base and a 57/67 base, so either of those as an initial assignment would at least potentially allow you to transfer bases and get to DC. |
Thanks for the info, as far as type you think having A320 type and good time on it PIC will help getting A320 IAD at all? I am just wondering how hard it is to get A320 IAD spot, that is if they call and you get hired of course.

I would focus on getting hired first. |
experience and quals will help you get hired and then will have absolutely nothing to do with what you get as a new hire.
there will be say 20 people in class and 20 assignments available. the latest rumor I heard is that seniority within your class is determined by age. (oldest guy is most senior). I am not 100% that is how they are doing it, but whatever the method is, the most senior pilot in the class gets his/her choice of the 20 assignments. It goes down the list to the next in line and he/she has 19 to chose from, and so on, until the last pilot (the 8 ball) gets whatever is left. As it stands right now, there is no 737 base in DC, so if you want to be based there, you would want to be on the A320 or the 57/67. Doesn't mean they won't open a 37 base there, I just think it is going to take awhile before they do that. If you get a 320 I don't think it will be hard to get back to DC. They went "unfilled" there last spring, so you may even be able to get it straight out of new hire. We are supposed to get info on the new bidding process sometime this week and they are expecting the first of the new bids for the combined list to close in early October. Once the results are posted from that, we will have a much better idea of what will likely be available for new hires later this year. |
FWIW, we were told in training that SFO 737 base would open, followed by a IAD 737 base. That was June. As much flying as I have been doing at IAD as a EWR based 73 guy, I can believe it.

I interviewed last week...Is it the normal email=bad news / phone call = good news? The wait is a killer...
|
What's the general wait time to hear something after the interview? I agree the anticipation is killing me! I'm sure many have gone through it before, but it sure is tough when it gets to you. I was hoping to walk out of there feeling like the job was mine but all I've been doing since is second guessing everything lol.
|
You should know within ten days.
|
I interviewed last week as well. Hoping for the good call tomorrow, Good luck!
|
Anyone know what percentage of applicants are getting the good news? Also any guesses on how long it would take a new hire to get Denver? I imagine both questions are hard to answer. I hope to get an interview someday, but don't have any recommendations or PIC turbine. I do have about 6k in the right seat whoopie! I think I will be waiting awhile.
|
Hang in there, a week to ten days and you should know.
|
I know its a call if you got the job, it is an email if you didn't? Does the email usually come in the same time frame as the good call?

I interviewed a few weeks ago, and a guy that got the bad email found out Wednesday evening. I got the job, and was informed two days later. Hope it helps!

By this point, I am assuming the original 300 have all been interviewed? Will there be an additional mass email sent out for the next batch, or will it just be individual calls/emails from here on out? Just curious what to look for should I find myself among the lucky ones...

You're looking for a call from 303 area code. Good luck, it's agonizing I know! |

They ripped through that 300 a while ago. There was a brief pause around late July or so, and then everything resumed. Straight from CV however is that the email system they used on that first round was quickly abandoned as it was creating more work than it was worth. Since early last month or so it's just been phone calls.

Is anyone getting called without a 4 year? I see they only prefer one, not require.

Long answer: If you are the nephew of a system chief pilot, have a very solid background, a spotless record, and photos of the CEO with a goat you might be able to squeak through. Otherwise, this the is the front side of the hiring wave and UAL has thousands of applications with the same, or better qualifications, and the 4-year degree box checked. UAL can be very selective at this point. |
from IAH CP update:
As of Sept 15.... 205 pilots had responded to recall 23 accepted 87 accepted but are on mil leave 95 bypassed Remaining furloughees have until Sept 24 to respond Ual will continue to hire and fill classes with newbies where there are not enough recalls. 60/month (recalls+newbies) till end of year possibly going to 100/month for first 6mo of 2014 Sled PS. sure is nice to see all the nervous suits with power ties walking around TK. :) |
Any idea how deep the pool is?

The one with folks that have been offered a job but have not been assigned a class is very shallow. With the small acceptance to recall numbers I suspect that there will be some very short notice class date offers to keep the training pipeline full. The one with all the applications on file hoping for an interview is getting deeper by the minute. |

Has anyone heard of just your average regional captain with a few internal recs, a 4 year degree and +/-2,000 hours of PIC getting the call yet? All I've heard so far seems like they're still calling the LCA's, mil IP's and former interns.
Also, a few pages back, they were talking about a CP whose LOR could be the "kiss of death" but no one would name names. Could someone at least post his initials? |

But I do have certain contacts. The information I shared was current "as of" last week when I directly spoke to an individual in that department---so it's probably obsolete by now. ;) |
Has anyone who interviewed in the last week heard anything yet? If I sweat anymore, I might disappear :)
|
Jetblast I have a friend waiting too! Good Luck!

Well....I too am wondering. And, while I 'hear' they're calling Mil IPs iaw Grumble's post, I'm not sure they've called that many. The truth is that there are so few slots for such a deep pool that they have the luxury of filling their demographics however they'd like. In the meantime, I'm focusing on regionals (any job is better than none) and have tried to do the best I can with a positive attitude/approach to hiring in the Majors. I'm a Mil IP/EP, 3800 TT, 3000+ TPIC, 2xMaster's...but haven't heard a word and as I said, I expect to have to wait in line along with all the other well-qual'ed bros. I have 5 internal + 5 external rec's as well, but then again, while good, it's never a shoe in. Best of luck to us...it'll improve. I'm confident.
|
Recently interviewed. No news yet. Good luck to us all
|
Interviewed Friday....no news yet.
|
The board usually meets on Wednesday. If they can't do it on Wednesday then they try and meet on Friday.
|
If you interviewed the week of the 16th you should hear something next Wednesday to Friday...
|
Would the guys and gals who have recently interview mind posting their experience/qualifications?
