I'm taking my "bird dog" out and letting him embarrass me this afternoon at a friends farm. After missing some birds and watching the worlds worst bird dog run around and make a fool of himself for a couple of hours we are going to retreat to the big screen for cold beer and steaks and tell lies and watch games on the 50".
It ought to be a good afternoon.
Last weekend a guy dropped a collared dove in the river, my dog made a beautiful dive, swam out got the bird then swam to opposite bank of the river spit out the bird and took off for two hours. He is a 100% pure bred pilot hound apparently...

That's one helluva beast. At least yours fetches the bird! Mine will chase voles and squirrels before she'll do the darn job she's supposed to be doing. And heaven forbid I leave food out for one minute without keeping my eyes on it. She'll devour it faster than you can say, NO!

Pilot hound from the word go.
She's a great family companion, but she's the laughing stock with my hunting buddies. It's okay though, I can outshoot any of them with a scattergun, and I'm the only one who hunts birds with a recurve bow when I'm really feeling randy. Ruffed grouse knocked dead with an arrow, breasted out, and tossed in a pan without damaged breast meat is the greatest treat in the world.
