Hired at UAL without College degree?

Not being a "hero" and just flying from point A to B, sounds more like someone who does NOT run around trying to fix the company's stupid mistakes, and just follows the contract…
I can respect that,

I was interviewed and accepted at UAL with an Associate Degree, and was currently attending a university full-time when I was interviewed, but was in the pool so long that by the time I got my "come on down" letter I'd just gotten my B.S. along with another 1,000 hours. Worked out OK so far, 27 years later.
I wouldn't count on that happening again any time soon, though.

Congratulations you are one of the very few in the far left corner of the bell curve as in the .00000001%. With that in mind to be competitive a bachelors degree is the norm. Just sayin...

I honestly think it all has to do with timing!! A couple years ago you needed 30,000 hours PIC on the Shuttle with multiple Lunar landings and that would only get you into the pool!! Today, you can take that you were in the space program off you resume. You won't need it anymore!! You just need to know someone in the Airline of choice with a degree and some decent quals! Finally, while I don't believe there will ever be a pilot shortage, there will definitely be a QUAL pilot shortage! So, in a couple of yrs. I think all you'll need to have is, proof that you applied to a College at sometime in your life, meet Min flt hour quals (you can log anytime in an A/C, which includes time as Pax in the back going on a Family Vacation to Hawaii) , and not have any Felony's on your record!! Misdemeanoers are ok as long as you paid your fines in a timely manner!!
