Saddest part is all of the hardworking ground crews that will lose their job. CLE always had ground crews who took pride in their work and always did a great job.

The official announcement from United says only express flights will be reduced. Mainline flights will remain along with Pilots and FA domiciles. This does not in any way minimizes the disruption that this reduction in flying will cause to other employee groups.

Yeah....but not too long ago they said that CLE was one of the most profitable stations.

I think we can all see where this is going.

SEA, CLE, and eventually DEN are toast.

They're leaving the mainline crews so they can fly the 76 seater to be based there.

CLE makes no sense as a hub once the merger brought in ORD just like Memphis dropped once NWA merged with DAL. What does make sense is exactly what they are doing, keeping their high yield mainline routes for the Cleveland Clinic and other key businesses.

I'm guessing that one of the reasons that TK will eventually move to a new facility in ORD or IAH is because DEN simply won't have enough traffic in the long term future to get 12,000 pilots to training each year.

Does CLE have many pilots that commute from small cities that would be looking at losing direct service? Just wondering if there are many pilots that will not have a direct flight commute option to CLE anymore.

Before ya'll get carried away with the DEN base closing notion....know that DEN has more mainline daily depts than LAX or IAD, and 5x as many as CLE. Denver has deathstar alliance 747 service to FRA and mainline 787 service to NRT. In 2012, UAL and the city of Denver worked out a deal to forgive 100M in debt (not a typo) if certain growth parameters are met. SWA threatened a lawsuit to stop that deal. DEN ain't going nowhere, SEA on the other hand....

JMHO,

Commuting for me to CLE becomes non existent as of April. I will have to drive the 6.5 hours if I don't get to 757 school by then
