I believe the meet and greet is a holdover from the old CAL system of hiring. It seems that the meet and greet is now just a way to have another LOR added to the online app. I don't know why a LOR from an office dweller would have any more weight then one from a line pilot who has actually flown with an applicant. HR is running the show, not Flight Ops.

Hence the added importance of having a "suit" LOR in this HR driven airline
