Truth! It was the day before I was scheduled to be on RSV in EWR and I was on page 4 of the availability sheet. I called to see if they would release me. The scheduler said "I can't do that, but since I have you on the phone I'm going to need to put you on 2 am short call." I had to race to the airport to catch the last DEN-EWR commute of the day at 5pm. Got to the Crashpad at midnight for a 4 am call.
DON'T call or answer your phone on your day off!

I had a scheduler attempt to do that once, and I told him to pound sand. He went off one me how he's got me on the phone and this and that. I told him 'If you want to discuss the option of possibly putting me on a short call that will be a subsequent and different conversation." He tried to manipulate me and intimidate me, and gain I told him "pound sand" He said well "I got cha" I said oh really.............. Tell you what put your supervisor on the phone and lets have some fun, or you can hang up and attempt to contact me in subsequent converstion for a totally different purpose. He said "I am playing the gotcha game, and I gotcha." I told him see you later."
Phone rang, it went to voice mail and I never heard word about it.
Guys and gals....Man up and make these schedulers respect you and do it right. If I call scheduling for one thing, and they want to play games with me, that is unprofessional and I won't tolerate it.

I never had it happen to me the 14 months I was on Reserve but I always thought it might. Sad to hear that it actually happens. There were a few times when I had questions about the next day but wouldn't call for this very reason.

I agree with you on holding these people accountable but as a new hire on probation at the time I wasn't quite ready to "man up" and tell them to pound sand. At least not with something that isn't clearly defined (at least I couldn't find it).
