I don't get this.

We have OBAMA in office. He's been there for over 6 years. He's the big democrat right....

Well, why is this a problem?

Why hasn't ALPA and the Obama administration got this all taken care of?

Why are we paying union dues? I thought the least ALPA could do was take care of the big gorilla in the room.

Maybe I am just rather simple in my optics, but I see an ALPA that doesn't really aggressively fight the fights it needs to at times. This is one of those times.

ALPA better get off its keester and take care of business.

Not to mention billions in Boeing orders with the threat of taking their business to Airbus.

They ARE taking care of business. Unfortunately it is ALPA business, and usually not ours. 50 seaters to regionals, age 65, etc.

This is about the only big issue that I an remember where I agree with them. But they are not fighting for us. They are fighting for their own survival and union dues.

As a veteran I belong to an organization that, similar to ALPA, represents unique interests on capital hill, monitors trends and legislation affecting these interests, and, yes, even has a somewhat pointless magazine. However, when they prioritize an issue to fight for, they provide post cards and links for emails to representatives in what they call a "storm the hill" effort. And it is very effective. Our congressional representatives are all too familiar with bureaucratic input and it becomes part of the lobbying background noise. But when they hear from individuals, en masse, they tend to listen to the lobby because when individual constituents are making the effort to communicate, they see the votes and the needle can be moved. ALPA isn't all we want it to be, but they have made it easy to contact our reps directly--and that can make a difference.

I'm usually pretty skeptical of anyone who makes an argument for either side, but do you honestly believe ALPA "WANTED" 50 seaters to RJ's and/or age 65(soon to be 68) or did they merely fight as long as they could and when all the forces were against them, capitulated in the most reasonable manner possible.

Everyone talks about ALPA as if it is some group of people who aren't pilots from the companies they represent. Stuff happens and the union tried to deal with it as best it can. Just cause you and I don't like it doesn't mean that ALPA created it.

When the ME carriers come into the US and undermine every international route they can get their nose into, will you post that it was ALPA who let the ME carriers into the US market without any quid pro quo?

Thank-you.

Sometimes the total lack of reality shown by individuals is astonishing, and it's nice to know not everyone thinks contrails in the sky are poison dumped by the government.

A breath of common sense. As a former LEC chairman I wish I could have represented a council made up of pilots like you.
