Default Summer time vacation ewr/iad (73/bus)

Just curious how long it takes to hold a summer vacation in EWR and IAD on the 73 and bus. Also how long to hold a commutable line on both. Thx in advance for any info. Just trying to see which base/plane qol comes first.

Years. Summer vacations tend to go senior and there are fewer slots offered by the company due to increased summer flying.

The 737 is currently a FAR larger fleet in EWR so for the same percentile in base there will be more available trips to try to make a workable line. That said, the majority of EWR pilots commute so you are fighting for the same commutable trips. There is a crossover point, however, where trading commutability for productivity can result in fewer days worked.

Just realize there is no free lunch and there will be lots of pilots senior to you bidding for the vacations and trips.

I'm in EWR approaching my 18th year in the high to mid 50 percent range in my category. When I get a summer vacation, I'll tell you. I'd say under 50%... I've gotta be close... right?

You earn 5 hours of vacation time per month under the UPA. If you are frugal with it throughout the year, you can usually get 2-3 two week breaks during the summer.
