A filing Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission described the terms of Smisek's separation agreement. He'll receive a separation payment in the amount of $4,875,000, and remain eligible for a pro-rated bonus. Smisek will have health insurance until his is eligible for Medicare, and maintain flight benefits and parking privileges for the remainder of his lifetime. He also gets to keep his company car.

Good luck with the optimism! The fact is that Munoz has been on the CAL board since 2004 and the UCH board since it's inception in 2010.
Said another way:
He's listed as the "financial expert" on the UCH board Executive and Finance committees. Munoz has had a front row seat on the board and took an active role as a director in:
UCH stock buybacks
Executive bonuses
When you see front line employees without the assets to perform their jobs, remember that Munoz was a key board member that chose to "return equity to shareholders" at the risk of hobbling the operation.
No doubt that a board member's job is to encourage management to squeeze every last dime from gross revenue and return it to shareholders. Just don't tell me that this guy is riding in on a Unicorn and farting rainbows.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
In the next 90 days, you'll see him around the system glad handing everyone within reach. There's going to be enough Kool Aid for everyone and you'll hear guys humming Kumbayya on layovers. In a year, you'll look back and realize that nothing has changed.
I hope everyone can reply here in a year and tell me how full of it I am, really!

I am as happy to see Jeffy get the boot as much as anybody. All that being said, aviation, and commercial aviation, has always been a bit, ahemmmmm, dodgy.
Anytime you have a mix of government (city, county, state, feds) and private enterprise, you have almost continuous conflicts of interest. I think SWA is the most famous for "greasing the skids".
A buddy of mine flying in Guam said we inherited a "special" relationship with the governor and his family. Apparantly, somehow they get to fly for free. This all happened long before Jeffygate, but apparently it continues to this day.
While we are on the subject of corruption, how is it that a long time ALPA hack, who spent almost his entire NWA pilot career in Herndon, VA, ended up showing up to UAL as our SVP of Flight Ops? What did UAL owe ALPA that they had to hire one of ALPA's cronies to a high paying executive position, for which he had zero experience?

Guys, it's only $58 for every pilot, agent, ramper, programmer, dispatcher, analyst, accountant, manager, etc. Only $58 a piece from every one of his former coworkers, worldwide, from Houston to Hong Kong. Peanuts, really. This is a pilot board. Can you not afford $58? Is that gonna break the bank?

What are the chances that someone whose been on the CO/UA board for 10 years won't continue to try to unsuccessfully fit the United-shaped peg into the Continental-sized hole?
