forgive me if this is a dumb question, but you have to finish initial on whatever you get, right? Can't bid up to and start training on the next thing that quickly can you?

Pretty sure you can bid anything once you are setup in the system during indoc.

No...
A new hire buddy of mine bid the 756 on the last vacancy bid and got it before finishing initial 737 training.

I've seen this happen a fair number of times. You will finish training in whatever you are in then move on to the next piece of equipment. You may even know your training date before you finish the original training. Once you are scheduled for training, it seems that you will go to completion.

You can bid to a higher category anytime. I held a 756 bid before my initial 737 training was complete.
