So more 777 Captain bids in EWR and SFO in 1 month than are retiring in the next 3 months, but this is a wash? No. Its for new airplanes obviously. There's a reason each one was 10. Why not just read the CRO and see what the company said about the 60 777 bids. 27 Captains, and 33 FOs for new deliveries.

Exactly!! This bid does NOTHING toward the 14 777-300ERs coming by this time next year on the CA side.

Except when you currently live in the Panhandle of Florida and the only single-leg commute is to IAH...

Crew scheduling said these bids were for the 777s being delivered. Funny that they also said SFO and EWR would get them and that's where most of the bids are.

No it's coincidence. Your armchair analysis of crew planning is what's really important. They didn't know what they were saying in their own report.

How many 777 CAs are retiring system wide?

How many 777 CA bids are there?

What's the net gain system wide for 777 CAs?

How does this even begin to staff the GROWTH in 777s?

Do you see my point yet?

I get your point. Yes the bids will go to SFO and EWR. Yes this bid builds SFO and EWR above current retirements. Yes that's what crew planning said was going to happen. If we lose 0 777s and gain 14 a system bid that adds only 7 CAs until OCT 1 does NOT account for the new planes. Either way it's growth.

All I was trying to say, which clearly you did not read, is that this bid was not as big as I expected it to be and it does not address the staffing numbers needed for the new planes.......

Can we end this now or do we need to throw around a few more insults?

Thems the shakes bro. How many years has it been since DEN had captain vacancy bids? Not including the massive pre ISL Freaky Fred invasion bid. Seniority giveth and seniority taketh away. Welcome to the airline industry.

Many of those retirements were covered on earlier vacancy bids. No one bidding today will be done training to cover guys retiring next month, or even the month after, let alone September. Training won't even start until August most likely, and they won't start hitting the line until October.

So those 777 Captain bids back in Jan, Feb, Mar were to cover those guys retiring. The SFO 10 and EWR 10 are to start training guys for the growth. You can't just look at those numbers and say those are to replace those exact pilots. Lots of other BES have retirements that don't match exactly with the bid. The fleet may already be under/over staffed in that BES so you don't know. MIN/MAX are only for bidding purposes. They change monthly.

All I'm saying is that the same people who put out the bid stated that there were 60 positions to start staffing for the new deliveries and each base got 10 Captain slots.

So I'm betting that this does start to staff the new 777s, but that's mostly because I believe what Crew Planning said today in their newsletter rather than my own airchair analysis.

it's incredible that some of you guys actually fly airliners. really. carrying on arguments about whether a new training slot and plane/seat bid is offered by management to cover a retiring pilot or to cover new flying. I'm just rolling my eyes. must be fun to sit in your cockpits for a four day trip. are you guys like this at home, too???
