Here is what the FOU shows:

Mark your calendars: Military/veteran pilot career fair scheduled Nov. 10-11 at SFO
Registration open September 16-October 7
Our recruiters continue to work hard to find the best and brightest pilots to join our talented team. To support this effort, they are planning a special career fair targeted exclusively to current military pilots and veterans on November 10–11, 2016, at our SFO Maintenance Operations Center.
Here are some additional details if you know someone who may be interested in attending.

November 10
General information session: The first day of the career fair offers current military pilots and veterans more information about becoming a United pilot, particularly what the first year will look like. All participants will get to hear more about making the shift to a commercial flying career, more detail about the hiring process and have the opportunity to ask questions. United pilots who have successfully made this transition will be available to discuss their experience.

November 11
1-on-1 conversations with pilot recruiters: On day two, qualified applicants will have the opportunity, by invitation only, to meet with a pilot recruiter. If interested in receiving an invitation to this portion of the event, candidates must ensure their pilot application is on file and up to date at Airline Applications by Sept. 30, 2016, for the pilot recruiting team to review.

Admission to the career fair events are free; however, United will not cover meal, travel or lodging expenses.
Registration and invitations
Online registration is open from September 16 to October 7. Space is limited and by invitation only (if interested in Day 2, remember that a candidate’s pilot application must be up to date at Airline Applications no later than September 30!). Confirmation emails with invitations will be sent a few weeks prior to the event.
For security reasons, only individuals with invitations will be allowed to attend these events.

How about any veterans? Not just veterans that were pilots.

The announcement is a bit ambiguous on that, but I've got a buddy who was 6 years AF (non-pilot) and currently an RJ guy and he's going to give it a shot.

A military recruiting event which isn't too close to many military installations with pilots.

Is this a way to boost traffic to SFO in the off season?

SFO is close to Travis AFB and not much else in terms of military pilots.

It would be much better event in GA or TX or even NY/NJ where there is a lot more military traffic.

Well, good to see they are helping recruit more military. Maybe this is an outreach primarily from the SFO Chief pilots office. I hope there would be another one for the East Coast and another one for Central US. Military guys don't get Non rev privileges like their regional brethren where they can Jumpseat from one coast to another.

Good luck all.

It's an outreach recruiting event specifically focused on veterans at the base with probably the greatest growth potential in the entire system.

If you're not appreciative of the opportunity, please don't attend.

Geez... I guess the millennial entitlement-culture has not left the armed forces unscathed.

Calm down Francis....I mean Winston...or maybe Nigel? It's a great point that SFO isn't the best place to host anything. DenverTK, Chicago, or IAH training center would have made much more sense for location. However, I wholeheartedly agree....if you want the job, just show up and don't complain about the location.

Holy jumping to conclusions Batman! You don't know a thing about the poster from his/herpost....especially his/her generational affiliation. Zoomie's point is a good one. Geographically/Demographically there are better places for a company serious about recruiting military talent to pan for gold. If Apple were to try a major recruiting event in my home town (2,000 relatively tech unsay you folks strong), you might hear similar criticisms.
My .02 cents
