United replied to my inquiry; this event is open to any veteran, not just those currently AD flying or retired (20 years service)

So if you just did Four in the Corps, you're solid.

1. The decision to use SFO is made. Why sit around and argue the merits of whether Texas would be a better location? Waste of time.

2. As Galaxy posted, tons of military pilots within drive. And he forgot Pt Mugu and the Channel Islands Guard, as well as Klamath Falls. Never mind how easy it is for the McChord pilots to grab a direct flight from SEA-SFO for cheap.

I'll be coming from the east coast. I see it as an investment, only of course if I get the invite. Not sure when they're sending those out.

I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first or the last time), but I think the term "invite" is a little misplaced. Go online to the link and sign up. Then you will get an "invite," as long as they don't run out of space. They need to do the "invite" so they can have the required info to be able to set up the event with people coming into the "secure" area of the airport. The MOC at SFO is on the secure side of things, so I am sure there are some fun requirements from the TSA of what all you need to provide before you can be allowed into that area (even with an escort)

There is a screening for the 1 on 1 recruiter talk on day two. Day one is just a presentation, Q&A, etc. Just like the webminar they do every now and then.

If anyone is feeling adventurous and wants to pass ride to SFO, shoot me a PM and I will hook you up with a buddy pass. You'll learn a ton about United in the process.

I normally don't post on new hire type stuff primarily because I'm far removed with the process but a couple comments are appropriate.

- why SFO? It showcases the United maintenance/overhaul facility that was and still is the envy of the industry even after being gutting by Tilton.

- why just military? I think baseball and Ottolillienthal pointed out with the premerger CAL management violating of CAL pilots CBA and USSERA law that has filtered to the new United on another thread on this forum. There will likely be consequences and the lawyers and PR people are likely trying to get in front of the bad publicity and mitigate a little of the courts judgment by holding this Veteran recruiting event.

It's also possible the company is trying to avoid striping the Regional Carrier subcontractors of pilots needed for mainline feed.

A note for the the "enlisted veteran" - don't assume you have to be an "officer and gentleman" for this program. Over the years United has hired enlisted veterans from WWII, Korean, Vietnam and the current Middle-East conflicts. Don't eliminate yourself - let United make that determinations. In some cases you will likely be as qualified or better qualified than the O&G group.
