Well, it's basically a new type of plane, with spares requirements. It's got to be entered into the MX data base, log books created. A new engine type, new MX qualification requirements.

It will need some kind of engine reliability assessment for ETOPS. Entered into the reservations system with a new seat map. Probably taking a bunch of time, a gate assessment to find out where it will and won't fit. Wing span is slightly longer with the extended raked wing tips, but it hangs out farther. I don't think it will fit at gate 66 in SFO.

Lots of stuff to do. You would have thought a lot of this stuff could have been handled before it got here--but this is UAL. Oh, forgot, have all the VP's of something or other come and tour the plane....

I'm still not sure how I'm going to try to land it the first try.

Probably how we all land a new airplane? Try your best and laugh if you drive it on hard or smirk like it ain't no thang if you grease it.

UAL maintenance runs a series of checks to verify that the airplane basically works as designed. Additionally, at least in the past, they also install items which are specific to UAL but not a part of the certification.

Think of it like your car dealer doing their delivery checks and clean up before putting it on lot except instead of a few hours it takes a few weeks.

It also more than likely still needs a STC for the new seats.

With it being a new variant they may not have to, but for a new type added to the certificate they have to do a simulated evacuation also.

Undercoating, stain resistant spray on the seats, air freshener.

I'd go for the spinner wheels.
