The pin on the tie was a cultural norm at LUAL.
It was a very effective way to differentiate the members from the non-members without having to play "Where's Waldo?" with the pin. This reached its zenith following the pilot strike and continued as a norm.
It was also a display of solidarity with fellow pilots.
And it still is.

Now can we talk solidarity with those guys shouting loudly in the crew room about why they wear their legacy wings? (And I've yet to go into the IAH or EWR crew rooms)

Spirit merger will bring everyone together.

For anyone I fly with who is in the bottom third of the seniority list, I tell them a vote for scope relaxation is a vote for their personal furlough letter. Those who are lucky enough not to be furloughed, enjoy the stagnation.
Syd and James get it. Leave the profession better than how you found it.

I hope you're right. I hope we can all see past the bright shiny objects which will inevitably be dangled in front of us.

I heard enough stories about the "intro-Nazi" that I wrote the MEC membership Chair last year.
I was pleased that he too had heard the complaints, and that someone else was now giving the "welcome" brief.
Unfortunately: the previous Reichsmarshal had done the vast majority of "Zine zee paperz!" indocs in the last two years.
As such, a big percentage of newbies may have been put off by it. Damage was done...but not irreparable.
Time to be a diplomat, and talk about it over a beer on a layover, if they don't wear it.
Like democracy, it ain't perfect, but it's the best we've got.

There are a lot of military guys, plus some from SWA and JetBlue...while yes are unionized, are not really known as being "Union Companies"
And during our class's indoc, they made it very clear that the pin goes on the tie.

But that's totally what I would expect those guys to say. Everyone has an excuse. Scabs and those that don't wear the pin.

The only person in my class questioning why we needed a union here was a Mil guy not the Skywest guys.
