Apparently the company is so clued in they know exactly what power source your iPad is plugged into... be berry berry careful.

I am in agreement with keeping personal business off the device, but just wondering what the collective's thoughts are on Article 7 of the UA EFB LOA on Flying together:

7. Except as required by law, the Company will not monitor individual performance or compliance with policy, directives or regulations using the iPad or the data contained therein.
Can someone with legal smarts explain this? At first glance, the LOA contradicts the Working Together guidelines with regard to IT devices. What "law" would require the company to monitor individual performance?

I think the key word is "Monitor"... Don't believe they are tracking "real time" each pilot... but, if a pilot were to get in deep kimchee over some other issue no doubt the company will investigate (i.e., dig up what apps and sites visited on iPad) for other areas of wrong doing to build a stronger case to include conforming to Flying Together guidelines.

However, I don't believe the company has the manpower resources (or care) to track all the FAs and Pilots that have company issued devices... and seriously doubt keeping a log on every individual pilot/FA to see what harmless (sports/news/banking) apps they are using on a daily basis... However, I do believe they have algorithms in place that highlight websites or pics that may contain illegal material like pornography that is being used... just like any other business/government agency. Don't you think they would be notifying the CPOs and calling in pilots already if they were cracking down on illegal apps on your iPad???

This discussion is really OBE (overcome by events)... the company has already fixed the problem by blocking the App store from downloading apps not on their white list.

Agreed,

And my comments were in reply to somebody suggesting a way to override those company blocks on a company issued device. Just don't do it!
