iPad App Store

My iPad is strictly a company iPad except for the non company apps that we are asked to download occasionally for work stuff. One was a meeting app, another was a study app, and another was the app that they use in meetings that collects answers to questions in the room that they now have made a company app.
I am writing this in my personal iPad that I got through Verizon, I bought it primarily to run ForeFlight on. There is no FREAKING way I'd use my company iPad in a personal airplane.....

I am bemused by all the bleating and flying spittle regarding the ipad. There is a phenomenal amount of "stuff" on the web pertaining to flying, weather, travel, maps, cities, diet, exercise, etc that is germane to our occupation yet completely benign. Do guys really think that there's a group of sleuths in Willis pouring over this nonsense? And, that they're ready to pounce on the reckless offenders? Has anyone really gotten in hot water for reasonable (but not necessarily company use) of the ipad?[/IMG]
Guess if they had cause to seek you out they could but I seriously doubt anyone's going to bother checking them out.
I'm with you, put whatever the hell you want on the thing and leave the porn on your own personal device. So funny when someone brings up SOP and the FOM and how we have to follow every letter of it all the time. These clowns who are usually the biggest offenders of doing it "their way" and reek of do as I say, not as I do.

Yes they do, so do instructors.

U must B an important dude to C all of that!
They can also track your IP and MAC address, but why would we spent $$ to track every troll on the internet; unless you did something...
that cost $$ and reputation.

You are welcome to put anything you'd like on your company iPad. Just sayin that doing so makes you a moron when it costs so little to simply provide your own personal device for personal use.

Funny you mention that. Had trouble with my ipad and was speaking to one of the tech guys. Asked him if they monitored what was on our ipads and he laughed. Yeah, he said, there are 4 of us on duty and in between trouble shooting tech problems and changing passwords we spy on 12,000 Pilots ipad content.
Guess if they had cause to seek you out they could but I seriously doubt anyone's going to bother checking them out.

I'm saying UAL would, or would not, do this but I personally witnessed this exact scenario at another carrier with electronic devices.
They don't have the staffing to bother watching everybody 24/7 but they certainly are capable of going back and looking at everything an individual of interest has done, and long after the fact.
Along with all the other features, the installed "Airwatch" software is very powerful, and totally legal, spyware. (Hint: they even put "watch" in the name.)

Yeah I'm like the Grand Kumbah and head booger picker all mixed into one. Either that or I was required to attend the annual three day standardization meeting like every other instructor, LCA, APD or whatever is every single year. This isn't really that top secret or behind the scenes dude.

This is how they know, how many pilots read Safety publications, how you manage your apps, etc. Entire profile is under General - Dev. Mgmt. (MDM Profile). If you want to get deeper, you can download your profile and edit it in Apple Xcode or any Swift editor. Or you can briefly look through all profiles within (textual description)
Data collection is a tool used by company to compile CQDL and training.
Yes, if you have a mishap and unfortunately a serious injury or loss of life; rest assure, your company iPad will be subject to review.
Guess what, during accident investigation all your personal electronic devices, you had with you at the time of accident, will be subpoena by NTSB lawyers, including your cell phone, and cell phone records, credit card info going back minimum 3 weeks, surveillance footage from hotels and airports, etc.
So, Mr. LCA "I have my own devices"; next time you talk to your Asian or South American girlfriend while taxing or with a door close and beacon on, or checking how's your commute flight doing, or texting your boyfriend, or downloading Russian XXX clips in the overnight hotel, just think about it for a second. Does it make a difference that I use my own PED at work?
Lawyers will do their best to demonstrate your state of mind and intent, they will fry you, and who knows; depends on the content of your PED, governemnt may even fry you on additional charges.
Before you ask; YES, I participated in a trial, and it wasn't pleasant for the party involved. LOL insurance did not apply in that case.

But using your PED in flight or anytime the flight deck door is closed falls into the category known as MORON that's already been mentioned. So in a nutshell for those of you who still aren't getting it. Don't use your company iPad for personal stuff. Don't use your PED illegally while on duty. And I guess we need to mention for "best" sake don't look at illegal content either.
That way if your stuff does get confiscated and looked at it will not be a problem!
It's really not that tough.

While they are doing all the monitoring maybe they could find someone that could actually provide power to our company ipad while we are working, how long has it been and still no solution in sight.
