I'd gladly take the first year hit in exchange for the career long benefits. It's all in how you look at it, and of course your current financial situation.

I have hard time believing anyone would skip us because of the first year pay. Crappy schedules, night flying, hazmat, domiciles, sure. ..but first year pay? If you average out the first two years the pay is definitely "livable." Could it be better? Absolutely. However for someone to give up on a great career strictly because of the 1st year pay just doesn't seem to be very logical?

**For those doing serious research only**

I was hired in Jan. If I use conservative figures I am on track to make roughly $57,500 this first year. I average about 82-85 hours of pay per pay period. I do fly a lot of international, so about 21% of my total income is per-diem/Premium pay. I was in training for about 2.5 months before starting IOE.

Your mileage will vary depending on your acft, reserve or line holder. If someone wanted to pick up JA's and trip board offerings, you could easily add another 10-15% to this figure. If you never broke guarantee and never spent the night in a hotel, your numbers will be much less.

**DISCLAMIER: I'm providing this information as a planning tool to those considering coming on here. It is not meant to start a poop-slinging debacle of the merits of our contract. So please keep negative replies to yourself. I am very happy and EXTREMELY proud to be a UPS pilot.

The IPA negotiates on every aspect of employment including first year pay. We just haven't been very successful with that. The company knows that they have no problem filling seats so the laws of supply and demand are working well in their eyes.

To support G550 and provide the other side of the spectrum; I am a domestic guy and average about the same credit per month and will make right at 50K this year. The difference being per-diem and premium. I am way better looking that G550 though so I've got that going for me.

Hey G, good on you for throwing out first year numbers so people can actually have a number to plan from. I would suggest removing per diem from that amount since it should all go to food and beer. Including that number skews the pay just slightly. Although as a probie, our IPA brothers and sisters make sure you're well cared for on the road.

CL300, my IPA Captains have been so generous to me, I cannot even begin to explain it with words. Tight-knit group.

I heard a rumor that a UPS/IPA Capt spent $3800 on food and drink for his probationary FO and IRO during a 14 day Trip. He needs a ZIPper on his wallet but what a kind gesture.

I sure hope it's not captains only? On the 74 we routinely split the probie check amongst the entire crew. Even if the captain volunteers to pay it all.
