I gather that on reserve, you must have 14 days off in a 28 day period, is that correct?

What is the foot print of a month on reserve? (4 on 3 off, etc?)

How long are airport/hot standby shifts?

Reserve lines are contractually required to be built with 14 days off within a pay period (28 days) and that’s exactly what they do. Note: there are a couple of oddball exceptions like a 35 day bid period and management flying compensation lines. Mostly they are arranged in a 2 weeks on/off scheme but there are some lines that split the 14 days into 2 blocks. Varies by fleet and time.

Airport standby = HOT standby lines = dozing for dollars. These are limited to 14 Duty days in a pay period and are usually broken down into 4 on 3 off schemes with 1/4 weeks completely off. Only 1 or 2 lines of these per fleet but it’s not uncommon to not see any. They company will drop HOT blocks into open time as needed but it’s for pickup only, no trip trading.

The HOT can only be a max of 8 hours of duty without a flight being assigned at which point it reverts to normal rest rules.

Great info. Thanks.

Not exactly ...

To be more correct, the 2 week on/off RSV lines are only on the international fleets, with 2 week long trips to cover.

I have yet to see 2 week on/off on a domestic only fleet. Some domestic RSV lines are week on/off ... but some break it down into shorter ON RSV blocks, to avoid the 24/7 break day.

Adding another layer of detail, every category but SDF 75 and the Bus has at least some 2 week RSV lines in their lineup for 2004. MD is mostly 2 week blocks yet a domestic bird for all intents and purposes.

36 MD FO lines in 20-04 had scheduled international trips, and if 20-04 ends up being anything like 20-03 there will be a huge amount in open time as well. At least for now, two week blocks of MD reserve don’t seem to be going anywhere.

Probably depends on fleet, but on the Z it goes pretty junior (for the most part) - and for good reason, I sit reserve and get used most days. On the days I’m off I get 1 or 2 JA calls so I imagine the same is true for everyone else sitting reserve.

I think that there is language requiring reserve lines that match the charector of the fleet that they are in.

Can Z lines out of SDF be 2 weeks on?
