You will be "awarded" a position (Airplane and domicile) from your submitted choices before you start. That award is shared with you when you show up. That award is based on the last system bid that has remaining vacancies. You then have a seat lock for 18 months. You can still Submit bids because UPS can award earlier than 18 months.
A new bid will create new vacancies after that bid is awarded. Then those vacancies are used for future new hires.
If awarded a 757/767 as a new hire, UPS often allows a move to a different 757/767 domicile. (SDF/SDFZ/MIA/ONT)
Hope this helps.

Salty, “often allows” is not the best description. If you are in indoc, and a system bid comes open, as will most likely occur next month, you WILL BE awarded a base change IF your seniority can hold it. Equipment lock is 18 months, but there is no base lock. If assigned 75/76, you can freely move between domiciles every system bid IF your seniority can hold it. It is purely seniority based.

Last few have been June and December. If you start in July, you will have to wait until December, and then most likely 6 months after that for effective date, unless you are allowed to transfer early (doesn’t happen often). So plan on a full year.
