I was in your position. I don’t know where you’re coming from, but I was doing some second-guessing myself. It didn’t take me long to realize I had definitely made the right choice, but everybody is different.
Like others have said if you come here at 31 you’ll be really senior someday. Only 2% of the group is under 35 right now. I couldn’t have dreamed of being that senior at my major.

Than you’d be like me, except I came over from the Air Force. You’ll never be super senior, but you’ll make a ton of money and retire with over $80k/year in A plan plus a very healthy B plan. The retirement wave won’t crest for close to a decade. Upgrades will be well under ten years but you will never be at the very top. As you probably know, starting second year the pay here is very good. I can’t tell you exactly how many years to break even, but assuming you grab first available upgrade, it will probably be between six to ten years after hire to be ahead in total compensation. Lots of unknowns, the biggest being do you or will you live on domicile?

Major airline is defined as an airline that generates more than $1-billion in revenue annually.
National airlines - Just one step down from the major airlines, these are scheduled airlines with annual operating revenues between $100-million and $1-billion.
Regionals are divided into three subgroups: Large regionals - These are scheduled carriers with $20-million to $100-million in annual revenue. They operate aircraft that can accommodate more than 60 passengers. Medium regionals - These airlines operate on a smaller scale, with operating revenues of under $20-million, and often use only small aircraft. Small regionals - These airlines don't have a set revenue definition, but are usually referred to as "commuter airlines." They use small aircraft with less than 61 seats.
