Default Any regrets?

Hi all, I’m in the middle of the toughest decision of my life.

Living in socal makes life easy for bases. Do any of you regret not going to a legacy instead of cargo?

What are your thoughts about the future of Ontario base?

I lived in Lake Arrowhead when I was going through that phase of life. No regrets at all. Our Ontario base is likely safe for some time to come due to the way the company can use ONT crews to fly lines they would have to pay EDW to SDF crews for. It wouldn’t shock me if they get some international flying back as well, but that is pure speculation. All that said, I was transitioning off active duty USAF at the time and had no intention of staying in SoCal. Currently domiciled in SDF and live in Indiana, I had no desire to stay in California, but I do miss some good friends we had there.

Not really, everyone here is paid WB pay. Don't have to deal with pax or FA. Retirement package here is a big plus. Not having PBS is probably one of the biggest plus along with our amazing vacation rules. And did I already mention no FA or PAX? Plus you see airlines go through cycles every 10 years. Each legacy carrier is carrying billions in debt, no thanks.

1. More so at the legacies. There you have large bases with multiple fleet types, domestic and intl flying. UPS ONT is a relatively small domicile, no chance for another fleet being based there (MD was only realistic option but that’s on the chopping block), and I’ve only heard bad things about the flying lines. Winner: legacies.

2. I made a post related to this on another thread somewhere. I think most at brown are a strong no. Myself and a few others are on the fence but I think that’s more of a company-company thing instead of legacy v cargo flying. I.e., I’ve never met anyone at brown who would prefer to deal with people vs boxes, myself included… but a specific legacy might have been a better overall fit. Legacies and cargo each have their pros and cons that you have to weigh out; no clear winner.

3. I’d bet ONT domicile in 10 years will look exactly as it does today. Otherwise, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon IMHO. Also note: ONT SDF commute is super easy for the most part. FedEx has a LAX base?

Anything specific about flying lines out of ONT that you’ve heard bad things about?

one thing. is,
In the contract there is a CRT window. If you show between midnight and 4:59 your duty day is 9:30 scheduled. But, it is based on Local domicile time. So, the company uses the ONT crews on the east coast to give them the normal, longer duty limits on the east coast.
